What do you think about this home theater combo?

If you're going to spend 1600+ on a TV, at least get 1080i capability.

I have no idea WHY anyone would buy an analog set now, unless they are bargin shopping. And you're not bargin shopping.

pssst... thats canadian! (though the point still stands, don't spend $1000 on a tv... either spend $600 and get a decent analog set or boost it up to an HDTV)

Another thing is, I am very clueless about TV's and their features. So any help in that area would be great. I thought this TV would be nice since it is a flat screen and seems to have some nice features. Can you find a TV on the futureshop.ca website that would be better for me to get? I am not really a big fan of the projection TV's, I never really liked the quality on them, and I don't want to spend the money for a plasma. Is there really much point in getting HDTV? I doubt that where I live will ever have it, even in 5 years. I think directtv has a few HDTV channels, but probably nothing i'd watch

I was able to pick up a similar Kenwood DD Surround Sound system for $170 shipped back in the day. :p

It's a great system...I'm sure you'll like it. ;)

Ya, it is hard to beat the price of a home theater in the box system if you get all the stuff seperatly. $599 canadian for a full setup is a very nice price IMO.

Do you have any other stores to choose from? Their selection sucks.

I'm not familier with Canadian currency values or their electronics market, so excuse my ignorance. But in the US, you can get a decent tube based HDTV for under $1500US. They go as low as $899US for a 30" 16:9.

Humm.. not really much selection, I live in prince edward island and we don't have anything here lol -- We have a couple of other smaller stores that sell electronics, but Futureshop is really the only major electronics store here. And electronics have always been expensive here, same goes with computers and the like. I won't be finding much deals, that's for sure, and I definitely don't want to make a purchase like this from an online store.

Well, in Canada you have Bell Expressvu satellite service. They have something like 12 HD channels. Plus, DVD looks SO much better on an HDTV, it's not even funny.

Yes, HD is that big of a difference. And Rear projection has come a LONG way in the past few years. Have you looked at them lately? That store had some decent deals on RP HDTVs in the 42"-50" range.

What is your price range? What is the maximum you'd spend, and keep in mind HD makes your TV more future proof.

well, I wasn't really planning on spending this much for a complete system. I was originally thinking about even getting the 32" JVC flag iart TV, then thought maybe i'd get the 36" -- I don't really have the room, nor need a TV that is much bigger then that. Also, I definitely won't be able to sit 12+ feet away from the TV, i'd probably be sitting maybe 8-10 feet away from it, so I thought a nice tube TV running off a sat dish would look great at that distance.

No one is saying much about the Kenwood home theater in a box system, do you think it is a good choice?

As for the HT in a box set, I have no experience with them. I have HK and Denon receivers with Mirage and Kef speakers in my HTs. I haven't checked out the boxed sets, so I cannot comment on them. But if you have a space restriction, then they are probably a good bet for you.

Actually, after looking at the system, it doesn't look half bad. You can't really go wrong for that price. :)
