Do you know anyone who's arranged their home/personal space according to the doctrines of feng shui?

Do you believe in it, or know anyone who does?

I'm considering seriously looking into it, as I'll be moving to a new room in a couple weeks... it sounds fascinating and I'm sure there are a lot of quacks out there, but as an ancient art form/belief, shouldn't there be some underlying truth/validity to it?

I personnally think it's a waste of time unless someone can actually prove that it really works. I've heard of some people who completely modified their house because of this.

Yet another example of the commercialization of Asian culture. Go to the library and get some books. Some of it makes sense. Don't pay some stooge to rearrange your furniture and light a candle.

Fausto been packing you too hard lately?

BTW, I think as long as a room has an ease to the flow of foot traffic, you're fine.

I don't really believe it, but I do think that it can improve the appearance of rooms and what not.

Kind of... I believe that there is a connection between you and your surroundings & your surroundings/environment have a great deal of positive/negative effect on you.

But I don't go all the way with it where you have to have flowing water in the house & that you need mirrors here to reflect the bad karma out the door and such...

hahaha according to feng shui, having overhead beams in your house disrupts the chi, giving you herpes :Q

Thing is that flowing water and mirrors are both good things for you.
Having a fountain or a fish tank or a pond adds moisture to the air, reduces static electricity, provides soothing noise, pleasing light reflections, and staring at fish swimming can lower your blood pressure.

Likewise, mirrors make rooms appear larger and brighter.

That's why I say that some of it does make sense.

yup, I'm somewhat into it ... picked up a few pointers here and there from my mom who's a big fan of feng shui ... I was skeptical at first but some of the stuff are pretty logical.

I'll go with having flowing water & mirrors for the reasons you stated, but I don't believe in having mirrors to reflect or attract energy and luck and all that...

If you're a interior designer, you have better lucks in setting up a more comfortable home than those feng shui fools. Some people believed in them as it gives them a sense of relief that their house are positioned right and in the best possible arrangement. I personally don't believe it but my mom made it clear that my new home needs to face south for some odd reason. The thing to remember is believe in whatever give you a peace of mind, position your bed a certain may get you a better night of sleep why not? :) but don't over do things just becuase those feng shui folks say so. think about it and see if it makes sense. :)

Hrmm according to Feng shui, these forums aren't arranged properly, the top banner attracts horrible spirits that then trickle down into each individual post. Then these posts aren't happy with their "personal space" so their Chi sends out an enormous electrical short that turns each of them into a potential virus! [/sarcasm]

Yea, Feng Shui just messes up your back from moving your furniture.

Some of the practices are sound from an interior design/aesthetic perspective, but a lot of times the reasoning behind them is complete BS. It's like someone telling you not to smoke because cigarettes contain evil gremlins and when you inhale them they disrupt your chi.

Great episode of Bullsh*t. They hired 3 different FS designers and had them do the same house. All three said completely different things. Some moved furniture in one room, some the other. One said, "Red is a very bad color in here," when the very next person said, "The red couches are a perfect color and match in this room." At more than $3K a pop for these quacks to look at your house, it's a complete ripoff.

If you want to feel better by spending a couple thousand dollars, get an interior decorator. They will make your room look real nice and you'll feel proud to have a nice room.

FS is for idiots with too much money. I don't see how those designers charge so much to come in your house and talk about crap they know is just pure BS.

I think this was the same episode as tap water vs. bottled water. 75% of New Yorks picked the tap water over bottled water in a blind taste test. They really ripped into bottled water industry and people that swear by it.
