I work a lot these days. Not nearly as many other people do, but I do work 40-45 hours a week. When I get home, I'm tired. When Friday comes, it's a day for me to sleep in.

Today came a long, the weather is great, and a Christian Witness comes to my door. He babbles on and on about scientific reasoning, and why Christianity is correct. Cool. No? No, because I am a Christian. This isn't about being a Christian. OH...well you can leave now. You and your KID, your father, your grandma, your mother...the whole family.

Now as a Christian, I am a firm believer in the aspect of leading by example. In being Christ-Like, Christ never went out to everyone's house. He lead by example. I know witnessing is a big part of Christianity, but let me learn this in church. To the churches that witness the most, their sermons are like gossip hours. "Tommy Jo...who had a kid when she was only 14, is here to give her testimony..."

Aye...the church isn't for me. I'm still in the process of wanting to learn about other religions before settling down with Christianity. I think it's better to know about other religions, before bad mouthing them like the stereotypical Christian.

Me: "What do you think about the 'religious crusades' Osama is pursuing?"

Them" "Well my pastor says..."

Eep.

Annoying. But that's just because people of my own faith never knock on my door and talk to me about their HappyBook. It's always the other ones with f'ed up religions.

I find them annoying. Which is why I never answer the door. And if i do, i take their literature and throw it on the ground right in their face. Then i slam the door.

Actually, he DID go house to house. He also tought in the synagoges(sp), on the road, when he stopped to get a drink of water, when he wanted to rest, pretty much every chance he got. Give me a bit, and Ill come back with scriptures to back this up. I dont have my bible handy right now.

I dont do it much right now, but thats because Ive been a lazy bast*rd the past few years, though Im working on changing that.

I use two dogs, white german sheppards. Shed enough on those black suites (attack trained too, but I rarely need to mention that, I just let the dogs be 'real' friendly and jumpy).

Of course, in my old house I pulled a stunt that got the religion to write a letter to me (and my police cheif, who laughed) saying I was permantly on their 'do not disturb list'.

Annoying, but I have a peephole so if it's somebody at the door I don't know who looks like they are in such a lovely peaceful [read: clueless] place I don't answer.

I wish that followers of any religion were more open like you. This world would be a much better place then.

Yeah, but even that open-mindedness has a limit. I mean, how open minded can you be when planted in a religion that says that you are right, and all other non-believers are heathens, infidels, or [insert whatever word your abrahamic religion spouts], bound to hell, or the hellfire or whatever the story uses to scare their members?

My church does have door to door missionaries and I'm actually planning on going on a mission. However, we try to be polite about it. Our missionaries try to go when they think they won't be annoying (yes, I know, getting up and getting the door is annoying, lol) so the morning or around dinner is out. And the best part is, if you say thanks but no thanks, they tell you to have a nice day and leave.

Care to elaborate?

Well, I will admit up front I wasn't as polite as I usually am (or should have been) to these people. That said, it was a couple years ago early (early to me) on a Saturday (9am ish). Someone knocked on the door (I was still in bed). I ignored it. They rang the door bell, I ignored it. They knocked again (I ignored it). Then they made a big mistake, the phone company had dropped off some yellow pages and they picked those up and used those to BANG on the door (this whole trying to get me to the door laster about 8-9 minutes). The phone book to the door was VERY loud, and I'm not a nice person when awoken from sleep early (early to me) by anyone banging on my door.

So, I get downstairs and open the door. There are two ladies about 30ish and there two young kids (probably about 4). I said a couple of things (I actually don't remember the exact wording, but to the affect of, WTF is wrong with you, and your tresspassing go away). They proceeded to lecture me on they had a legal right to bang on my door, and a legal right to be there. I explained to them that while they may have had a legal right to knock, once I informed them that this was private property and they were tresspassing they had to leave. Anyhow, I told them again to leave, they refused. I tried to close the door and the actually pushed one of the children into the door frame. So my choice was slamming the door into the kid or leaving it open (or moving the child myself). Since neither hitting an innocent kid with the door or touching someone elses kid appealed to me, I walked outside and started unrealing my hose.

At this point there where a bunch of threats and warning from the ladies (who I continued to ask to leave). One of them picked up the before mentioned yellow pages and thru it at me. They then decided to leave when they realized the ramificaitons of they just did (probably from the 'I'm gonna kill you now' look I'm sure I gave them). I sort of returned the lob from the lady smacking her in the head with the flying phone book and then let loose with the hose (aiming at adults, not the kids).

So, yes I was an ass (they did wake me up). About two weeks later I got a letter without a return address covering the incident and a copy was mailed to my (at the time) local cheif of police. Their version of the story missed some of the facts (like almost all of their actions). Anyhow, I called the cheif (just in case), but he was actually laughing about it. The letter actually said that do to my actions, their local 'ministry' would be banning my address for the 'safety' of their ministers. I've I had only known that woulld be all it took years before....

What, a bunch of misguided fools trying to push their BS on me? What's annoying about that? :)

I like listening to them, it's just hard to hold the laughter.

I was once bugged every other day by the JW's. It was in Germany, i was working 12 hour night shifts. Well 1pm was like 3am to normal folk and for some reason the JW's started bugging me around that time. I would tell them that i wasnt interested in english and in my broken German but they kept coming back. so one day they came again and i was pissed so I layed there in bed (i sleep in the buff) thinking if i should answer the door or not. The Door bell rings again so i decided i cant be rude, I answer the door with not a stich of clothing on and a :D on my face.

They never came back.

my wife was rolling when i told her what I did.
