I usually talk to my boss over the phone, so usually I say something like:

"Hanging out at the strip club."
"Sippin' coffee and eatin' donuts."
 
"using some down-time to work on self-care."

at my job, we actually need to recharge our batteries frequently, so this is an acceptable excuse.

In the very rare circumstance where I find myself without work, I call up my boss and tell him.

Im solving a system of nonlinear equations that will save us all from anti-choice activists, global warming, religious freaks, ans gun nuts.
