Currently... #2 on sides, #5 on top.

Thinking about growing my hair out, though. Perhaps long enough to donate to locks of love (in a year or two).

"Cut my hair."

This. I won't go to any hair stylist that requires I tell them some number. Bitch pick up some scissors and start cutting.

depends on how often you get it cut. if i go in after two months and tell them, 'just trim is a bit' or something they're gonna wanna smack me, because it's just a big matted wad of hair at that point. 'two on the sides and leave enough on the top for it to lay down' is pretty much what i tell them; that way they at least know to start short on the sides before they get into trimming the top.

recently i've been just buzzing it myself with a #1, as well as not shaving. ironically i think i look like less of an aggressive asshole than when i had hair and a goatee.

Really what it boils down to is that a number tells me that they probably have no idea how to appropriately blend the hair so it will look terrible.

erm...you're not asking them for a blend. i'm saying 'make all the hair on the sides and back of my head precisely 1/4" long, then trim and blend in the hair on top'

i've never had them NOT blend the sides into the top. that part is assumed...it's not an army barber. i'm just telling them how long to cut the sides. good luck leaving a 1/4" of hair with scissors, tim allen.

Metal #2 on the sides and back.
#1.5 around the ears.
"Short" number 4 on top.
Squared back with rounded corners.

It has not changed in many years.

So... does your hatred still apply in the case that the stylist wants to use scissors, but I instruct her not to?

This. It would be a pain to cut short hair with scissors. I keep my hair short, so I tell them 3 on top 2 on the sides and they know whats up.

Just doing a hard buzz on the sides back does not account for the unevenness in peoples' heads though. My stylist uses clippers there too, but it would be a disaster if she just set it to number 2 and let er rip.

exactly...i just put the number 2 on and let 'er rip, and it glides over all the lumps in my head and actually makes it look round an smooth.

you saying you want them to follow the line of your head lumps?

3 on the sides, take quite a bit off the top. if they have suggestions i usually let them do it. i go to the same place all the time.

What?? No. If all the hair is the same length then it will stick out different amounts based on the lumps. That's why some degree of attention to the buzzing + blending is needed.

I tell them "I'd like my hair cut."

I've been going to the same barber for awhile so he knows how I want it at this point.
