You specifically want to try something.

I want to try Paxil for anxiety.

I DO NOT WANT TO go into details about why.

Can you just say "Doc, I want paxil?"

Based on what? If its tv or magazine ads, you should really re-think your reasons.

why can't you confide in your doctor and tell him/her why?

no, they will not just prescribe it.

No, based on the fact that I have severe anxiety in public situations.

It seems to be the 'anxiety medicine'

You can tell him you think you need it, but he's still going to want to go through a diagnosis procedure. I seriously doubt he'll just prescribe it without any questions.

And why can't you tell the man you trust your life to this?

I've wanted to try something for years - but duhhhh I am a very introverted, secrative, anxious person. I would rather have a colonscopy than tell a doctor about things I think. I don't particularly feel close to any doctor that I've ever had, this one included.

There's a reason why you have anxiety. If he's a good doctor he might send you to a therapist or psychiatrist, or both.

are you a kaiser member?

if so you will probably have to go see a social therapist and from there she will recommend
you go on something then you go see the dr. that oversees the therapists and they pick
the best anti axiety drug thats best for you.

this is visgf:

The doc will want to know all your symptoms and everything else first. If it sounds somewhat legitimate then maybe. Docs get a bit suspicious (as am I) when people insist on one item only without letting them do their job by ensuring that it's the right agent for you.

BTW, her209: it's spelled Oxycontin

Seems? You are going to ask because it seems?

a - Self-prognosis is really really unwise.
b - Drug companies are not completely honest in TV and Magazine ads (if not outright lie).
c - Ever thought of therapy or alternative options first before drugging yourself?

I am all for medication but only when used in context.

Well in my entire 30 years, I only asked for a medicine once.

I asked for some sleep aide - Ambian, as I had severe insomnia (I still do if I don't take benedryl in quantity before bed). .

I was told no.

I just don't like doctors, medicine, etc. It gives me a bad feeling when you pay and pay and pay, and then they tell you no. I had half a mind to order some from a mexican pharmacy. . .

Through early morning fog I see
Visions of the things to be
The pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

The game of life is hard to play
I'm Gonna to lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
So this is all I have to say

Suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

The sword of time will peirce our skin
It doesnt hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger watch it grin

Suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

A brave man once requested me
To answere questions that are key
Is it to be or not to be
And i replied oh why ask me

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

And you can do the same thing if you please

do not order from a mexican pharmacy.... dude, anti-anxiety meds are not to be played around with.
if you take them and then go off them abruptly you can really fvck yourself up.

go see a new doc, and don't TELL him/her what you need to be on, explain your anxiety issues. i can't see why they won't recommend help.

DO IT OR IMMA BEAT YOU DOWN! :p

See guys thing is, I have insurance. But other than that I am fairly poor. My ONLY luxury is an internet connection.

I am married with kids - but outside of my family I am a total introveted kinda person who is always worrying about something and terrible in any situation involving more that a few close people.

I don't have money for shrinks, docs, tests, etc. I just would like to try a medicine. If it works great - if not great.

I just don't have the money for multiple copays - not to mention I live in BFE which would require an hour drive and 20$ of gas everytime I had an appt somewhere.

I went to the doctor told him I went to adultadd.com and it said I have adult add. I did research on Straterra and I really want to be on this medication. I like what I found out on the Internet about it... etc.

he gave it to me.

I have been off of it for 6 months. My conclusion: Everyone has Adult ADD. Medications just make you believe the problem is solved and you will believe it too.

You have a totally different situation, but yes the doctor will give it to you. If they do not change doctors.

this is visgf again:

Don't let direct-to-consumer advertising totally rule you. There are many types of anxiety medications. Paxil is in a group of medications called SSRI's along with Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, and Lexapro. There are numerous other anxiety meds that work in different ways to treat anxiety. It really depends on your specific type of anxiety symptoms, another drug may actually work better.

No doctor will judge you for what you think. Their job is to help you, but they can't do that if you withhold information. I would ask your primary care physician for a referral to a psychiatrist. Two benefits to psychiatrists: it's their specialty and whatever you tell them will probably be milder than other things that they've heard that week. Many people feel better talking to them for these reasons. The more you tell, the more they can help.

Good Luck!
