It just dawned on me that my job involves little more than going to meetings, suggesting an idea or two, and initiating and replying to a lot of e-mail.

What are your regular tasks at your job?

Nothing important, really..

*Prepare and file flight plans
*Obtain current and forecast weather conditions for origin, destination, and enroute
*Prepare proper fuel loads
*Respond to emergencies company-wide
*Delay or cancel flights if necessary
*Monitor progress of existing flights on my watch
*Coordinate flight operations activities between maintenance, pilots, fuelers, loaders
*Issue safety alerts or divert aircraft if necessary
*Schedule pilot crews in accordance with federal rules and company requirements
*post useless crap on ATOT

Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way my boss can't see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour. Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

*attend an average of 3-5 meetings per week
*design water main, force main, components of water and wastewater treatment plants
*prepare task orders for proposed jobs
*prepare engineering (cost) estimates
*ISO coordination
*prepare GIS maps
*review gov't rules and code
*CAD work
*prepare Water, Wastewater, Reuse, and Water Conservation Master Plans
*read/answer emails. It's amazing how many I get per day
*surf the internet when I have time

I've also started doing some roadway and impact fee crap. Fun stuff....

Guys,
Tell the truth.

You spend half your day surfing the internet (ATOT, porn) and the other half at the water cooler gossiping like yentas.

In my office, people do 10% work and the rest of the day making up excuses as to why things are taking so long to do.

*Attend 3-5 meetings per week
*Make 1-2 contributions per meeting
*Watch as suggestions are promptly ignored
*Wait for something on the SAN to break or the budget to change so we have to change all our plans
*Change plans (talk to project managers, tell them what is really possible and how that differs from their altered reality)
*Repeat.

Notice very little actually ever gets done...the beauty of large corporations..they spend so much time trying to figure out what they want to do and how to do it that their plan is outdated by the time they try to start actually doing anything...

Great...

Help Desk for almost 700 employees now across different sites(Pheonix, Denver, Minn., etc).
Pretty much all responsibilities of any other IT admin.
Answer emails. Write emails.
A meeting every once in awhile.
Currently working on support for new software.

A big part of my job is getting paid to *Know*. If that makes any sense.

I have people skills!

Just kidding. I'm a programmer. I maintain old code and write new code.

I wonder how many programmers there are here... :)

I wanted to be a programmer, but I have to admit I'm too lazy.
