non fat ranch + salad = not tasty
i love the people on "diets" who order a large salad with a fucking gallon of ranch and are like "i'm watchin my figure lolz"
Well, technically they are if they're doing low carb.
Yeah watching their figure grow
I wasn't going to respond to this because it really doesn't apply to me, but I just can't help myself.
Your average light vinaigrette runs about 50-70 calories per tablespoon. The heaviest dressings like Blue Cheese go like 120-130/TBSP.
On my full dinner plate salads I'll usually use about a tablespoon, but let's say I really soak this thing down with 3 tablespoons and I go from my vinaigrette to the aforementioned Blue Cheese.
The difference is like 300 calories. Is 300 calories a day the deal breaker between dieting and not dieting?
Now, if your going from one of my lighter salads to one with croûtons, tons of cheese, almonds (or any nut), and a non-lean meat then you could be talking about going from my 600 cal. diet salads to a 2000 cal. monstrosity.
I have a salad somewhere around 4 days out of 5 -- usually for lunch, sometimes for supper as well.
I frequently get a subway club salad: Lettuce, tomato, green pepper, sometimes black olive, w/ the subway club meats. That's in the neighborhood of 200 calories, 8.5g fat, 15 carbs. I always put fat free ranch dressing on it... if I get it from Subway, I use one packet - 60 calories, 0g gat, 14 carbs. If I use dressing from work/home, it's around 100/0/22. So... for that salad in total, it's about 300 calories, 8.5g fat, 37 carbs. I suppose I could be WAY off base, but that doesn't sound bad at all, to me.
If I decide to go to McDonalds, rather than Subway, I get their Premium Bacon Ranch Salad with a grilled chicken breast, and put my own fat free ranch dressing on it. That comes to somewhere around 375 calories, 9g fat, 34 carbs.
And, if I'm really in the mood for a nice big salad for supper, I'll go to Bob Evans and get a Heritage Chef Salad, with the requisite light ranch dressing, and rack up somewhere around 675 calories, 46g fat, 19 carbs. That's obviously not as "good for you" as the other two salads I like, but damn is it good.
The best part about these salads is that they're not small... I'm full after eating them (admittedly not for nearly as long as I would be if I ate 3x that amount, but you've gotta be reasonable).
Oh, and no croutons. I used to love them, but now I just can't stand their crunchiness. I might have some at Bob Evans, because theirs aren't as crunchy as most, but still...
