I've only been high once, off of nitrous oxide during a tooth extraction in 5th grade. Quadrants of my vision would disappear and be replaced with a rapidly flashing blur of yellow and pink until pretty soon I could only see the lips of my dentist. She seemed to ask me "Feeling ok? How are you doing?" every five seconds and it seemed like she was drilling a borehole into my mouth. Then she took the gas off and notified me that the cleaning was done (i.e. she hadn't even started removing the tooth yet). Then back to hell. Never again.
With alcohol, I have trouble getting drunk off of beer, not because my tolerance is high (I'm 130lbs and drink pretty infrequently) but because the sheer volume is too much. I have to drink at a rate of about one beer an hour for three hours (beers) to really get a decent buzz, and I cannot get good and tipsy off of beer without my stomach feeling completely bloated. Thus, I generally lean more towards wine and liquor, as I can drink half a bottle of the former or a few shots of the latter within an hour or two pretty easily, although because I generally consume scotch I generally do it slower and savor it for the latter. The only time I got to the point of passing out was at 16 (and ~90-100lbs), having consumed five shots of tequila over approximately the duration of Alfred Hitchcock's Birds and two thirds of Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind album (when I woke up it was paused on Quest For Fire). When my mom woke me up sleeping on the office floor I didn't feel great, but crawling into bed and getting up a few hours later, I was actually surprised at how great I felt. No hangover at all. Then I made the mistake of drinking a glass of milk. Don't enjoy tequila anymore.
