What do you prefer for a bank account?

In the next week or 2 I'll be opening a bank account. Was wondering what would be the best for a college student. What do the (current) students on ATOT use?

I use BofA because they have that $100 promotion going on. Took me 2 months to get it, but it was worth it. Plus, there are no monthly maintenance fees for the Campus Edge account. If you would like a referral (would help me out) let me know :)

Be careful that you don't overdraft your account, though - they have a killer $30 something fee :(

I've had bad experience with BoA nickel and diming me on fees. They even tried to charge me maintenance fees for my balance falling under the limit after I closed the account.

For a savings account you can get around 4-5% from some banks like ING and HSBC, I think ING has a 4% checking account too.

If youre an illegal immigrant, use BofA. And I just switched out of BofA because of that. I hated them too, they always find a way to charge you somehow. And there customer service is horrible.

I use citibank now. Its great, their website is awesome. Plus, you can get rewards using their debit cards - no one else does that that I know of. Also, its free if you pay 2 bills online or have direct deposit.

Also citibanks e-savings account pays almost 5% interest.

I just realized USAA gives .5% cash back on debit purchases. You have to select "credit" at checkout though.

Credit Unions FTW!!! I have been a member at where my dad works since I was born. There's another CU down at school that many people sign up for as well.

Free checking and cheap loans FTW!!

I'm assuming if you're a college student you're relatively poor. Forget about the interest/cash back, which will get you a couple dollars a year at best. Just go for the best service. You'll regret signing up with a bank that constantly has long lines or unpleasant tellers.

I had BofA throughout college. ATMs on campus, a lot of banks pretty close to the school, and hot tellers. :p

I can honestly say, I think this is the first time I've heard someone recommend a bank due to the attractiveness of the help.

I didn't recommend it solely on that. It's just a bonus. The two banks I have now are practically identical, but have a different name. Same service, no fees, online banking, etc.
