ING most likely, this is my first year of having a real job, I hope to actually get a decent refund.

I will probably blow half of it on some electronics or PC hardware that I don't need, then put half towards the principal on my mortgage.

Here we go...the interest free loan crap.

Yeah, because if you only get like under $1000 back, getting that spread out over the year is sooooooooooooooooooooo much better.

Yup, lets say the average American get about $600 back.
Thats an extra $50 per month for you.
If you put that $50 into a 5% account evry month for a year you would have earned a whooping $13 for the year.
Yes, we're all drowning in debts because the governement get to earn the $13 instead of us.

If you take an average of $1000 insted of $600, thats an extra $19 for the year.

If I get anything back it won't be much. I'll put it in the bank.

I tried not to and succeeded too well. With the HCE crap and extra 401k money coming back to me (I had no idea about it and did not plan on it), I'm doing my damnest not to pay a penalty on what I'll owe! :(

If you don't want that $13, then give it to me.

I'll bank it.

the $13 isn't worth it to me... not by a long shot... i'd rather get back around $1200-$1400 like normal in one lump sum rather than throughout the year...i'll gladly lose $19 -$25 for that

There is quite a few people in the world that think you're doing it just right. As long as you don't owe over $1,000 at the end of the year (penalty threshold), you're not bad. Other opinions vary. I guess it's whether you can save the money during the year to pay the taxes or would rather the government to save your money and give some back to you.

Assuming that I'm actually getting one, it's going to pay down my mortgage. I bought my condo in October, though, so I don't have a ton of interest to deduct and I'm not expecting to get much back.

I want to get that 20% equity as quickly as possible, so I can tell Genworth where to stick their PMI payments :)

$1000 @ 25% (which is what my portfolio returned this year) is nothing to sneeze at.

Wow!
Where do live to have such low property tax?
Currently my property tax is just under $3500, and July 01 2007 it going to be close to $4200.

While I agree that every penny counts, you would not get the $1,000 at the first of the year. Because it was spread out over the year, you would have gotten much less than $1,000 * .25 interest. Regardless, I too would rather have mine during the year (to a point).

First off, if you get $1000 over the course of the year, don't make it sound like you invested the whole thing @ 25% for the whole year. Secondly, I don't invest...period. I'd much rather have a nice little surprise at the end of the year.

I don't get why some people just can't get this simple fact through their head.
