I just got word I have my 2nd cavity ever (at 25 years old I guess that isnt too bad), and the co-pay for a white filling is $60.

I am not very experienced with using dental insurance. Does this seem right?

in California a small (one tooth surface) composite filling usually goes for $200+.

$60 for a co-pay - doesn't sound too bad.

does the insurance company send a bill showing how much they're paying ?

Five bucks for amalgam. If you want composite, you pay the difference between amalgam and composite. I think I paid more than sixty bucks for one, and I have pretty good insurance.

hmmm, don't have cavities anymore, at age 39, I get more expensive stuff done... IIRC, got a root canal/crown combo for circa $700 or so. right after the crappy MetLife dental insurance... it may have something to do with hitting my cap for the year.
