What do you order at a bar when you're not drinking?

Meeting a friend on Saturday to hang out for my birthday. We're planning on going to a bar to just sit and chill. Just order a soda?

I've honestly never been to a bar before because I'm not 21 yet so never really saw the point. I have to drive home afterwards so even if I could get liquor I wouldn't trust myself driving after drinking it.

is the bar going to let you in under 21? no.
edit: unless this is a bar at a restaurant or a hotel. clubs often let in under 18 so maybe that's it. but if it's really a bar, they're not going to let you in.

this is assuming you aren't using a fake ID

How the hell are you going to get into a bar when you're under 21? Just go to Jamba Juice or something.

Some bars will if they serve other stuff. You then you just get carded when getting drinks, and huge fines if you give drinks to people underage... in most states.

Ask for a Shirley Temple, it is the non alcoholic drink of the manly man. Personally, I would have a seltzer/club soda with a twist of lime.

Just order a soda. Tell them you're the DD. It won't be weird and they'll probably give you free soda.

I'm curious about how you plan on getting into the bar though. If this is a bar, they won't let you in. If its a restaurant with a bar, they will.

Edit: I just read that this for you birthday. Why are you going to a bar then? You're going to be the odd man out at your own event. Lame.

Well I turn 21 on Sunday unfortunately this friend is only free on Saturday. I don't think theres much else to do around his area on a Saturday night with a 20 year old.

Go grab a coffee. Its basically the same thing. Two guys sitting and talking.

But going to a restaurant bar shouldn't be a big deal.

Is your goal to get 21st birthday drunk or to have a few drinks and hang out?

Few drinks and hang out. I don't want to end up passed out in a gutter with a hobo or anything. I've also never drank before so I have no clue what my tolerance will be.
