What do you need to run a 7800 GT?

I heard the 7800 GT has some steep requirements for it to run in a system. Something about a 12V rail? If someone could elaborate on that, I'd really appreciate it. Also, would it run okay on a 400W PSU? Now, I know everyone's going to tell me a PSU with higher wattage, but I am asking in theory.

I think I read 400 watt minimum with 26A on the 12V rail. You can use the extreme outervision PSU calculator to figure out how many watts you're using. But, overclocking the CPU and GPU can burn a lot more watts. I wouldn't overclock anything on a 400 watt power supply.

What's the rest of your system like? I would definitely get a larger PSU for that card. The 7800 use less W then the 6800's did but it's still a lot of watts.

My 7800 runs fine on my 480W Thermaltake 20pin PSU with the CPU and GPU overclocked. I only have 18A on the 12v rail.
It might not be ideal but it works.

I used a Kill-A-Watt to measure the power drain of my system with 7800GT SLI, and the peak wattage I have got is 311 watts from the wall.
After 80% efficienty of the PSU, the system should be consuming about 250w.
I had ran a 6800GT (which should use power than the 7800GT) system with a 330w PSU with 12A on the +12v for a couple of months.
Therefore a quality 400w would be an overkill for a single 7800GT.

It depends what PSU. My AntecTruePower430W (for sale btw ;)) would probably run it fine. A generic no-name 400W PSU will likely go up in a puff of smoke...
