What do you need to have/ do to be considered an "elite" computer user?

- have a gmail account (not anymore apparently, they're too widespread already)
- have a web host with 1GB+ of storage and 20GB+ of bandwidth
- be a member of ATOT
- heat
- a huge newegg.com bill on your credit card

I don't think any of those count as "elite." I'd think elite would be more along these lines:

- have a technical term in general usage named after you
- have developed drivers, distributions, or other significant portions of an OS in widespread use
- have a website that's read by more than one million people
- have made portions of your computers from basic off-the-shelf components that you've soldered, wire-wrapped, or otherwise connected to your own PCBs
- are slated to be an expert witness testifying against SCO

I wouldn't consider anyone who doesn't have good C or assembly knowledge to be "elite" really...

"elite" users must know how to code so they can roll their own utils and "toolz" which doesn't even have to be illegal... I mean, if you need a glue solution you should be able to bust out some perl in a matter of a few minutes and craft something that fulfills a need you have.

I took AP C++ in HS and i hated it, i cant stand programming, WORST THING EVER

You need to know how to install, operate, maintain, and break at least a dozen major applications for each operahing system.

To achieve true "l33t" status, you have to own or support a few UNIX or Linux servers. You get bonus points if you have more than one of them at home, or if you have one of them in your car.

I don't know if I qualify for elite, but here's a general list of what I know/do:

Know several different operating systems including: Windows (all versions), MacOS (well, to a point at least), Linux, UNIX, Solaris
Know a few programming languages: C++, Java, and I'm looking at learning Python and perhaps Perl
Support a remote Linux server supported via SSH remote terminal. Server is running a few CS servers, will be running DOD, forum boards, apache, ftp, and mail. Site has approx 1000 GB of bandwidth available.
Support the servers at home. 2 Linux servers, one acting as a firewall and the other acting as a fileserver/media box
Help moderate a very popular (official magazine related) forums and give out advice.

I don't think I qualify as elite, just as a fairly savvy user.
