What do you make of this?

I was on my way home earlier today and I had to do a double take at the silver M5 sitting up on the pedestal by the highway at the local Mercedes dealer.

So MSRP is $81k. There are several new ones on ebay for $80k. Why do these guys think they can sell a used one with 3,200 miles on it for nearly $90k? And more importantly, who traded in a brand new M5? Someone who couldn't afford the payments anymore? Someone who didn't like feeling the road and wanted a land yatch instead?

I'm just at a loss.

You know after looking at those pictures I've really come to realize something. Any car can look good from the inside, you don't need to spend $90k to get luxury. Hell I had that kind of luxury with only $6k when I bought my Mazda 929.

Ebay's the best place to buy if your local dealerships are unreasonable. In some places, they're trying to get $20-25k over sticker for a "new" one.

LOL, it should be a V10. I've seen a black M5 in the mall a few weeks ago.

you can get a new m5 for msrp.. maybe not in high demand states like CA, but you can easily shop in out of state dealership and have it shipped over

i think it's a typo. there's no E60 V8 M5... i think "retail" means MSRP, and you can negotiate the price.

California residents are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California and the Environmental Protection Agency label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. most newer cars are designed to pass CA emission standards, so this is not an issue

Actually I'm considering getting rid of my Acura and my Lightning for an E60 M5, so I'll be on you so fast you won't know what happened. 😉

Waiting to see what the new M3 holds first though.

Ignorant? Status means absolutely nothing. I would never own a Ferrari. I drive cars because I enjoy driving them, not because some rich hippie thinks it's cool. My 929 was great, my current car is great, my previous vehicles had their charm as well. For $90k I can do a lot better good than some overpriced piece of "status".

Yes. I read your 929 is just as good as a BMW. I won't even concede its more reliable since I consider Mazda's reliability as "questionable".
