I thought about this and here is my answer:

There is nothing I admire about GWB.

But I do think he should be tried as a war criminal.

The guy surely knows how to play his card, his god card, his tax cut card, his "war presidant" card, and his "I am one of ya'all" Texan cowboy charm card.

The guys plays his card so well that even though he has one of the worest fiscal record, started a war based on false claims, and pretty much single handedly distroyed American prestige and relationship with traditional alley, close to half of American still choose to support him.

Gotta give him credit for that.

:D Nope, I won't give him credit for even that. Chalk up Bush's supposed political acumen to Karl Rove. Oh, and don't forget the twin blowhards, Limbaugh and Hannity.

I would like to support HardWarrior on not giving Bush credit for people still supporting him. Except I believe nobody gets credit. The people that still support him are ignorant. They don't deserve credit for that.

"The Wastrel Son" by Paul Krugman, New York Times Op-Ed:
"He was a stock character in 19th-century fiction: the wastrel son who runs up gambling debts in the belief that his wealthy family, concerned for its prestige, will have no choice but to pay off his creditors. In the novels such characters always come to a bad end. Either they bring ruin to their families, or they eventually find themselves disowned.

"George Bush reminds me of those characters ? and not just because of his early career, in which friends of the family repeatedly bailed out his failing business ventures. Now that he sits in the White House, he's still counting on other people to settle his debts ? not to protect the reputation of his family, but to protect the reputation of the country."

"As long as political figures aren't willing to disown Mr. Bush's debt ? the impossible situation in which he has placed America's soldiers ? there isn't much they can do.

"So how will it all end? The cries of 'stay the course' [in Iraq] are getting fainter, while the calls for a quick exit are growing. In other words, it seems increasingly likely that the nation will end up disowning Mr. Bush and his debts.

"That will mean settling for an outcome in Iraq that, however we spin it, will look a lot like defeat ? and the nation's prestige will be damaged by that outcome. But lost prestige is better than ruin."

I agree with a lot of what you said. I have seen, a couple of times, documentaries on this 2000 campain following him around on the bus and what not. He seems like a cool, down to earth guy that would be great to have as a buddy. But that said, as a president he is a miserable failure as many of us would be when thrust into that role. This country would not be in half the bad condition it is if McCain was in charge.

for that matter, Clinton would have been a great hang-out-and-party kind of guy...but that does not a good president make.

Man, I hated Clinton when he was in office...I had NO idea.

I admire the fact that he traded Sammy Sosa to the ChiSox which indirectly lead to Sammy with the Cubs.

I think he's about the worst president in history, I hope he dies, I truly do. Even so, I can honestly point out positive traits.
Still boasting about terminating the CinC as a means to eradicate "teh eval", I see.
