Oh, I know something else about Turkey, or at least I suspect this to be true. Based on anecdotal evidence - a sudden influx of Turkish posters - they're engaged in using Internet forums and other social media for positive PR.
Wow, looks like it was confirmed. Imagine that - at least 5 new signups from Turkey just for this thread. Having looked at IP addresses of tons of new signups, this might be some sort of record for that country. Thus, it appears that Turkey or some group in Turkey is engaged in using the Internet for propaganda.

edit: holy cow - looking at a site that's an aggregator for spam data - the amount flowing from Russia & Ukraine has gone up! Let's go fishing for some more gobblers... But, darn it, it's 5am over there.

The atrocities committed against the Armenian people of the Ottoman Empire during W.W.I are called the Armenian Genocide. Genocide is the organized killing of a people for the express purpose of putting an end to their collective existence. Because of its scope, genocide requires central planning and a machinery to implement it. This makes genocide the quintessential state crime as only a government has the resources to carry out such a scheme of destruction. The Armenian Genocide was centrally planned and administered by the Turkish government against the entire Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire. It was carried out during W.W.I between the years 1915 and 1918. The Armenian people were subjected to deportation, expropriation, abduction, torture, massacre, and starvation. The great bulk of the Armenian population was forcibly removed from Armenia and Anatolia to Syria, where the vast majority was sent into the desert to die of thirst and hunger. Large numbers of Armenians were methodically massacred throughout the Ottoman Empire. Women and children were abducted and horribly abused. The entire wealth of the Armenian people was expropriated. After only a little more than a year of calm at the end of W.W.I, the atrocities were renewed between 1920 and 1923, and the remaining Armenians were subjected to further massacres and expulsions. In 1915, thirty-three years before UN Genocide Convention was adopted, the Armenian Genocide was condemned by the international community as a crime against humanity.

I was amazed how little I knew about this genocide. I'm glad blsmfade brought my attention to it. I used to look favorably at Turkey, but knowing that you guys deny what you did... wow, are you guys brainwashed? Are you being lied to? The only one who seems to deny what happened is the Turkish government. Yet, there's tons of evidence that the Turkish government did this. You don't really think, as alluded to above, that some other government from some other geographic area sneaked into your country and killed over a million people without you guys noticing or doing something about it - to believe that one would have to be very gullible.

I know enough
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aya_Sofia#Mosque_.281453.E2.80.931935.29

Shortly after the city's defenses collapsed, pillagers made their way to the Hagia Sophia and battered down its doors.[30] Throughout the siege worshipers participated in the Holy Liturgy and Prayer of the Hours at the Hagia Sophia, and the church formed a refuge for many of those who were unable to contribute to the city's defense, such as women, children and elderly.[31][32] Trapped in the church, congregants and refugees became spoils to be divided amongst the Ottoman invaders. The building was desecrated and looted, and occupants enslaved, violated or slaughtered;[29] while elderly and infirm were killed, women and girls were raped and the remainder chained and sold into slavery.

Not much, other than a former CO I had in the Marines went there as a embassy back in the 80's after his run in Hawaii, and the XO was a Turk and pretty bad ass.

Faul Raul, he he.

No one messes with em more or less I've seen, they do their thing.

I know they don't care for the Kurd thing going on atm just South of them atm, and I admire the Kurds.

I'd hope wouldn't be a future conflict between em.

Hi to all.

I see that thread mainly focused on Armenian Genocide. But it's an argument that we cannot accept. But why? If Ottoman Empire killed 1.5 million people according the Armenian people, we never saw them on earth. In addition if you search of Ottoman history, you can see that Ottomans never kill people in a mass except wars. Secondly, this argument just a well organized Armenian lobby activity. France killed millions of people in Algeria but nobody mentions about this. This stupidly arguments shows Turks barbarian (like Arab terrorists) but if you come the Turkey for a trip you can see our great country. Turkey isn't an Arabic styled country we look like standart European people :D

And last you must try Turkish Doner :D It's definitely better than hamburger or other crappy fast foods
