What do you know about Czech Republic?

I know my family name hails from Stachy, CZ. Records trace back ~340 years.

Prague was really nice when I visited (full of drunken Scots for a soccer game)...though I'm fairly sure we got screwed by the cabbie on fare from the train station to our hotel.

I don't know anything else though. My Dad and Aunt visited some distant family there once.
 
Eastern European women are hot, Czech's are no exception and may be one of the hotter groups of EE women.

Economy was shit in the late 90's and it was a great place to party. Absinthe on the cheap, women on the cheap.

Czech hockey players mostly rock and their hockey fans are a blast to go to the games with.

Thats all I need to know really.

I have friends who travel to Europe from time-to-time. I am told that women in the Czech Republic (and Latvia) are some of the beautiful in the world.

Restaurants and their staff routinely try to take advantage of tourists in Prague. Tipping is not a custom there but waiters/waitresses will expect it if you are American.

Some of the world's best hops are grown in the country.

I was in high school with the Soviets rolled into Prague in 68. I remember Lech Walesa and the struggles of the Solidarity Movement as they tried to regain power from the Soviet regime...and I remember when the Soviets were ousted...and the Czech people were free once again.

Now, having never been there, I don't REALLY know how free the Czechs are...but it's gotta be better than it was in the dark days following the 68 take-over.

I have spent a few days in Prague. Not that a city defines a country, but that is my only PoV.

Beautiful people and a beautiful city.
Not as touched by WWII as say German cities.
Some of the best beer in the world, along with Germany and Belgium.
Too many tourists.
Efficient public transport.
Not as inexpensive as one would think.
Wonderful Goulash!
The girls in the strip clubs are the naughtiest I have seen.
Where most of "Amadeus" was filmed.
 
the women are fucking gorgeous. I love to marry one with that accent man. You know your a boss when your women got a sexy ass accent.

Hey, gimme a break...I'm old...the memories aren't as good as they once were. 😛

None the less, the events of the 60's and 70's are still fuel for my hatred of the Communist regimes of the world. I refuse to do business with any company who makes their products in any Communist country...when I have the choice. (obviously, electronics pretty much ALL come out of China...one category where I have ZERO options)

Not really. Restaurants in the Prague Old City will routinely try to take advantage of anyone who comes near them. You just see only tourists there because locals know better or can't afford it. Once you leave the Old Town area, you can get food and beer for quarter the price, or less (depends on how overpriced the "tourist restaurant" is).

Tipping is a custom and ten percent is considered polite, more if you are happy with the service.

I'm well aware of what dobre kocicka means. And of course I was joking.

FWIW, my cousin Zdenek thought it was hilarious to watch my brother and I flip out when he would say all the English cursewords he knew during his visit to the states. Most of those curses were some form of racial slur.

That may be the case now. But based on what my father has told me, there was a time not too long ago where there was significant animosity between Czechs and Slovaks. In fact, I believe that it was one of the reasons Czechoslovakia split into the Czech republic and slovakia.

Personally, I like slovaks and I think that most of their country is beautiful. Undeveloped, but beautiful.

qft. Restaraunts near the old town square/charles bridge area are very expensive. All you need to do to understand that is compare prices at the ice cream (zmrzlina) stands. Back in 1999, zmrzlina in prague 0 (near old town) was ~10 crowns/scoop (at the time, US 25c). In contrast, the same ice cream in my dad's home town (stara ves n ondr) was 2 crowns/scoop (US 5c), and you could find that price in the less touristy sections of prague as well.

Damn, all this talk about Czech food has me jonesing for some Smažený sýr, Kolac and Knedlik. It also has got me missing my Babicka from my father side, who passed away many years ago. That woman could COOK.
 
Lots of good deathgrind comes from the czech republic. Probably they are angry because they pretty much only brew lagers.

I know that the word Goal in Czech is "Cil" (with an accent over the i).
