What do you know about Cosplay?

Some of the costumes are quite interesting/intricate.

All of a sudden, my youngest sister has taken an intense interest in the art of cosplay. She's obsessed with the costumes of various anime characters, and is busy writing her own play along with some other friends that would require them dressing up, etc. I think it's cute, but am kind of fuzzy as to what it's all about.

Does anyone have any experience with cosplay, or know anyone who does?

Other than it being asinine, absolutely nothing.

From the little I've seen, it looks like it could be a positive, creative outlet for my little sister and her friends. Perhaps asinine for you, but not for them. Did you have any curious (albeit fleeting) passions/interests as a little kid, minendo?

i think the more detail thats put into it, the scarier it is.

to put things nicely, i wouldnt hang out with anyone who did this kind of stuff

The thing is, most people who are hardcore about cosplay are ADULTS, and that makes all the difference in the world.

I searched the world for a Tommy Vercetti Hawaiian T-shirt. Couldn't find one. That is my only experience with dressing up like a Video Game character.

Why not?

well, if a 5 year old did something like that, its kinda cute. but after a certain age, its just not right. would you want to be friends with a 25 year old girl that still plays with barbies or a 25 year old guy that still plays with his gi joe action figures?

Only if they are hot.

Well, no... I guess that'd be kinda weird. :\ I still enjoy a good Lego session every once in awhile, though.

So it's basically just dressing up like your favorite anime characters... kind of like Halloween-year-round?

yeah, wouldnt you feel weird about someone who thought it was halloween all the time?

hey!!!!
well not gi joes but my transformers are all in robotmode, posed in battle ready formation on my bookself 😛 lol

When taken lightly, it can be fun and cute. Much like halloween. When taken seriously, it becomes disturbing. When it becomes CROSSplay, it's just wrong! It fits the 90% rule (90% of everything is crap).

COSPLAY is big in japan....it's hardly kids play though.

The chicks I know that are into it carry it into there sex lives.....

Some younger girls are into the 'fun' of it....

cosplay can be very cool. though most cosplayers here in the states scare me, too many people with crappy outfits being super serious and thinking they're cool. hehe.

cosplay in japan usually is better done, but the jrock visual kei cosplay people freak me out. 🙂
i'm too lazy to dig up pics and links to some conventions in japan right now, but there's lots of people that are extreme. makes you go wow.

which one of these buttons calls your parents to come pick you up ....but then have them make excuses because they don't want to be seen with you?

I don't know if you guys are understanding real COSPLAY and just getting the American half-assed version by double-assed people.

The women I have seen that are really into it are 1) usually good looking 2) have nice bodies (maybe not playmate type, but nice and fit) and 3) are sexual....combine all of that and you have basically what many men ask their wives to be at some point or another (Hey honey can you put this on....)

However, I guess a hot woman dressing as your favorite video game character takes away from your whole 'immersion'...It's also probably safe to say you'd have a better chance getting the digital version to 'marry' you than any one of the several flesh-based imposters....

Go you!
