80 is crazy though... not only would it cost a ton, I'd be so damn hot I'd have the window open, costing even more.
I didn't realize so many people switched their thermostats large amounts for short periods of time (i.e. 60 to 70 for an hour or two then back to 60, up to 70 a few hours later). I thought that cost a lot as opposed to just setting it inbetween or so and leave it for that amount of time?

I set mine down to 60 when I go to bed, and leave it there till I get home from work the next day, when I bump it up to 68-70 (and back down to 60 when I go back to bed... I'm not in the apartment long enough in the morning to raise it back up. I just do a mad rush to show and get out the door in like 20 minutes).
my heating bills have been averaging $80-90 since I moved into this 1-bedroom. it's a nice change from the $200-250 I was paying in my old apartment .
