What do you keep the thermostat at in the winter?

It's freezing in NJ. We currently have the thermostat at 71 degrees and it's still freezing in here. This house does not maintain heat! 🙁

When I was in South Korea the heat was generated under the floor. It took 1-1/2 hours to heat my apartment. On cold days it was a long wait, but well worth it once the heat was on.

What do you keep your thermostat at?

71, but we live in Texas. You might have some poorly insulated walls or windows. By the way, you can install heating in your floor here too, but it ain't free.

Yes, it sucks. The cold air creeps in thru the windows. It's a summer home that acts poorly in the winter.

To the people who keep their thermostats low or off, where the hell do you live?

In the south? 🙁

Charlotte, NC here. It is at 68-69 most of the time in the winter. Someone is always home and I'm up to 2am every night and my wife gets up at 6am.... So it just stays at the one temp all season.

Right now it's on "cool" and set to 66 degrees fahrenheit. The A/C hasn't come on, so it must be less than that in here. I feel almost criminally comfortable at this temperature. I may not even turn the heat on this winter.

68-70 when home & not asleep ... 59-60 the rest of the time including when asleep.

Actually I use space-heaters a lot and keep the main heat very low ... have a small ceramic heater under my computer desk for when I'm gaming.

72, unless I run the gas FP, then it warms up to about 76, at which point I shut it off for the night and the room temp stays there, slowly coming down to about 72 in the AM.

In previous years it's been set around 60, but my housemate isn't as cheap as she used to be, so it's been bouncing between 65 and 70.

Using energy to heat a house is a waste of money. I just bundle up more and even bought a sleeping bag to use instead of blankets when it gets really cold. I've seen the temperature in my bedroom sometimes go into the 30s.

Aunt Margaret in Buffalo has a heated floor in her TV room so that's where she spends much of winter.

Day: 68-72
Night: 58

In the day, depends on how cold I feel. At night I could probably turn it off and not get cold.
