Was a lot back in the day! Not much since integrated audio and ethernet days though. Never understood the need to include 6 PCI slots, or 5 PCI + 1 ISA, its like damn that crap is garbage get rid of it.

RIght now its an Audigy with that damn little board for the breakout box. And that thing seems pretty bulky. The Audigy card is decent sized, but the smaller board underneath doesn't actually plug into the PCI slot (suppose it would greatly complicate things for no reason), but instead receives its COMM with the most ridiculously huge ribbon cable. Take the annoying PATA ribbon cable and multiply its width by 2 or 2.5 to get the width of this mammoth. And the thing is way too damn long and can't get effectively hidden away or bound up neatly without a miracle. Then the damn little board needs a floppy drive connector that is touchy as fvck (knocks power to breakout box sometimes, then I gotta wiggle it, then restart XP to recognize ports again). Then it needs this very stuff piece of thick rubbered wire for the damn IEEE port from the main card. And even more absurd is the connection from this little breakout box card to the breakout box. Man I should give you guys some pics. THis fvcker is like a hydraulics cable or something cause it is long, thick, stiff (LOL shut up). And that annoying thick cable for IEEE is even bigger to where it is bound with the large hydraulic-like cable (think parallel 25pin connection but much bigger) to go to the breakout box, for ONE damn IEEE port. Just seems ineffeciently designed!

Until someone finally offers decent onboard sound I'm always going to have a sound card occupying a PCI (and in the future I guess PCI-e) slot. I guess that might not happen because I'm a stickly for audio quality and onboard would never cut it except for possibly hooking up to a reciever ala soundstorm of ages past, but it doens't look like we'll be getting that again soon. If PCI-e does count then I guess we should say video card, I know that would be assumed, however nowadays we have people with 2+ video cards in their systems, ofcourse there were times when many systems only offered PCI slots and thus required PCI video cards.

Other than that it would be a LAN card, however most motherboards (at least the ones I get interested in) tend to offer dual LAN ports let alone just 1. However I do have 3 LAN cards but don't really need them as I don't do much sustained PC to PC file transfering, at least not with large enough files to mess with setting them up.

I'm going to say right now that your case airflow is probably FUBAR due to that. :p

System 1: Nothing
System 2: Nothing
System 3: Nothing
System 4: 1x ATI Rage, 2x Voodoo2 8MB, 1x SoundBlasterSomethingOrOther, 1x NIC

Let's hear it for onboard components ... and old-school gaming. :D

Well the temps now are even better than with the side panel off. :D

Although I wish I can mod the side panel with four 120mm fans, instead of this "ghetto" mod.
