Mem use and instability.

Like it or not, Firefox is the flagship anti-MS application right now, so it needs to really compete with IE on the mem use, and outshine it in stability.

Mem use: Remember that IE is just a wrapper for the rendering engine, already "embedded" into the OS. It's hiding that memory usage.

Stability: Many stability problems are caused by extensions. Idea: somebody should be testing different combos of extensions for stability. Most others are from the profile becoming randomly borked. This seems to happen ultra-rarely. A reproducable test case would be nice.

Yep, that's why I said 'compete' rather than 'eclipse'. If it gets within 5 MB or so average I'd be happy.

I agree there are bugs in the extensions, and that will always be hard to avoid, but they still need to pin down some ugly bugs in the Firefox engine itself.

- Deleting a bookmark from the drop down menu closes the entire menu each time unlike IE
- Random blanking of the bookmark toolbar after restoring the window
- Plugins gets re-enabled randomly after you've disabled them (no option to just delete the plugins altogether)
- Cannot re-order the tabs

Legit gripe.

- Random blanking of the bookmark toolbar after restoring the window

Wouldn't know; the bookmarks toolbar is the first thing I turn off.

- Plugins gets re-enabled randomly after you've disabled them (no option to just delete the plugins altogether)

Wouldn't know.

- Cannot re-order the tabs

Implemented in 1.5.

The hour or so it takes to load, and the fact that I still have to open Explorer from time to time to handle some transactions/log ons.

I hate when it removes your extensions every upgrade (at least that's my experience with it). Solution: don't upgrade=just as vulnerable as IE now. Also, I wish they'd use Windows Common Controls rather than their own proprietary, quirky ones.

I don't care if it's the W3C's fault, Firefox's, or the dumbass webmaster, but there are still page rendering problems that make me stick with IE.

Likewise, I'd like to see Microsoft add much better plugin support to IE. That and recode the entire IE, because there's probably a bunch of legacy buffer-overrun-prone functions being called.

Oh yeah, another thing I hate... If you're entering something in a search engine or any other textbox, and the auto complete dropdown comes up, it gets highlighted by the mouse cursor if it happens to be in that spot. If you press enter without moving the mouse, the selection in the drop down is used instead of the text you entered manually.

Way slower/less responsive than Konqueror/Safari.

Toolbar arrangement sucks. They really ought to adopt a windows-like drag and drop setup.

toolbar -> right click -> customize... ?
Yeah, but why do I have to even do that?

Perhaps one might interpret this as the stereotypical FOSS arrogance, but: :roll:. Manpower can be better spent right now.
Well this is a thread about what we hate about firefox :) I don't think anyone expected someone to run out and immediately fix all our gripes :p

Btw, you're doing a lot of apologizing/excuse making in this thread. ;) Do you contribute to firefox by any chance?

I hate that there's like a million different versions, no easy way to truly upgrade (yet), and the fact that 1.0.7 is a crappy ass version.

The ugly underlined link fonts and unconservative spacing. They don't look like IE or Opera. Quirks mode rendering issues I get in Firefox but not in IE or Opera. No official/stable ActiveX support. The irritating fanbase who brainwashed people that it's the most secure web browser ever. Proprietary common controls (Deer Park is a lot better in this aspect though).

Why I like it? AdBlock and that's it.

i left firefox a while ago. I hated the memory leaks/crashes. It was too easy to fubar the browser with a bad extension, and too much of a PITA to upgrade the browser when it would kill my extensions.

Here's what I hate most.. The fact that by default there is no menu option to open links in a new tab instead of a new window. By default, every link on this forum, etc, opens in a new window, instead of the original window full of my happy little tabs. The only way to enable the option for opening all links in the same window is by using about:config to set browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs to "True". Why? Why can't this option appear in the menu by default? How many people don't know about this feature because they've never poked around and stumbled upon it?

</rant>

Edit: Why do moderators have to move my thread but not the countless other Firefox threads in Off Topic?

Middle mouse button opens links in tabs, unless they are sh!tty javascript.

This is what I didn't like. For example, you're reading email, your browser isn't open and you click on a link. Firefox feels like it takes forever to load compared to IE.

That since so many use it now, the time is taken to explore it's security vulnerabilities and exploit them.
