I've used winamp for a while, is that still used by most people? I feel like iTunes is way too heavy for what I want...i.e. just playing the F'ing file.

I still use winamp as well...have never found a reason to switch.

I have heard that Fubar (2000?) works well too. Never tried it myself though.

Foobar2000, for sure. It's as heavy or as light as you need it to be. It comes with the bare minimum it needs to function, you add components as you want them.

Not for the faint of heart though, it takes some serious tweaking to get it the way you want.

I used Winamp for years, but recently moved to Foobar because the interface just seemed old. I like Foobar. You can do just about anything you could ever possibly need to do with it, and can be customized to be just how you want it.

WMP works pretty good any more as well.

Ive used Jet Audio long ago its top notch. Problem is my Tarantula supports media player and winamp.. Soo I have to use winamp.

If your keyboard is not a issue then try JetAudio Pro or Basic its feature rich. Like slowing down tempo and everything and see how you like it. Also Right clickin on mp3 works and you can add your your play list just like winamp so that is cool. good luck

I've used jetaudio, winamp, WMP, iTunes, and foobar as main audio players for at least a period of time for each. I'd have to say Foobar2000 is the best, followed by winamp. FB is just so freakin customizable, it's awesome. Almost anything I need, there's a configuration or component for. It has nice-looking skins, too (google for some of the nicer foobar skins), but my setup is pretty basic, but lets me search and organize my 120gb+ library very quickly and easily.

This is what it looked like a couple years ago; not a whole lot has changed - mainly the color scheme and the visualizer.

Don't scare people, LOL, you don't have to tweak anything in Foobar if you don't want to, you can simply pick a layout and then start playing, simple as that. ;)

Most of my files were just loose files in somewhat organized folders and I liked media player right click and add to playlist so that's about all I used. Very old fan of winamp but I haven't used it in years. Got an ipod recently though and now I'm using itunes pretty much exclusively. For me I think it helped with all the folders and tag naming corrections it did. I didn't trust it completely and still have an untouched copy of my stuff though.

I've been using Winamp for a long time, but recently started using iTunes full time ONLY for the DJ function. I give it a huge folder, and let it go. I got sick of making play lists all the time.

Does Fubar2000 have a DJ function?

Foobar2000, you can customize as much as you like or can just leave the default layout.

better for you does not mean better for everyone, itunes as a program for windows is a pile of shit only surpassed by real player.

for replaying music, winamp (classic) and foobar are as simple as you can get

the only reason i use winamp is because im too lazy to look into skinning foobar to be how i want it to be

Zune software. It's one of the most pleasing players I've used. SmartDJ and mixview are awesome, as is zunepass. Second for me is WMP12. The search/sorting and organization are fast and intuitive.
