Aspen Colorado has a subsidized housing program for workers.

many mountain resorts have subsidized housing for the workers. do you really think the legal ski instructors from new zealand who have a work visa or the illegal Mexican maids who work at the resorts can afford a low end 350 a night condo?

Did you go to a public school, to a state university, drive on roads, eat and drink and wash your body with products that weren't contaminated, while not being shot at?

The government is part of everything we do, and rightfully so, no one can take in and calculate the risks and rewards surrounding every potential decision: particularly if someone has an economic incentive to decide them.

Then there's the arcane tax-law that creates both accountants and the 20million in for-gone taxes the US government spent to let Romney run for president:

Ummm... I pay taxes? Lots of it? And if I'm not mistaken, are you saying that these people are entitled to certain things, and some are entitled to more stuff, because we're all being assisted by the government? Did I get that right?

Nope: I said quite directly.

"Move where shit is not so expensive. That's the fucking point of shit being expensive, so people who don't get payed well won't fucking live there.

God damit stop being poor and taking up all the good real-estate; There's LOTS of places you can get by with a family of 5 at 25k /y."

and "Can you GET BY without food stamps etc. in a very average cost of living location with 25k and 3 kids without getting foods tamps, government subsidized housing, or welfare benefits?

I did for years."

This is not because I hate poor people, but because I hate poor people being around me.

Now I'm confused. You said everybody is on government assistance, I said no, then you came back with some gibberish, and then more gibberish. I really have no idea what you're talking about, or if you even have a point.

I see you've played troll the trolling troll before...

Its actually decent. I like documentaries.

I disagree with big minimum wage increases.

I still do not understand why so many people are so opposed to moving away from these places. 95% of the United States is cheap to live in. No place is worth struggling to live in even when you have a middle class or better income.

1) They have no concept of what it is like to live in a place that isn't abhorrently expensive.
2) Media has convinced them that 'fly over states' are full of toothless hillbillies that will murder them
3) People are irrationally attached to the location in which they were born

It's funny you ask this because SoCal residents were polled and responded...

But more than 7 in 10 voters said they would rather live in California than anywhere else, with 47 percent agreeing “strongly” with that statement. Twenty-six percent of voters said they’d prefer to live elsewhere, according to the poll.

By a wide margin, weather, the beach and the state’s coastal location topped the list of voters’ favorite thing about living in California, with 69 percent citing the climate, followed by family, friends and the people (18 percent); a diverse and progressive atmosphere (17 percent); and a laid back pace of life (13 percent). In the birthplace of the Gold Rush and the silicon chip, only 12 percent of voters cited employment and earnings potential, the poll showed.

“Most Californians have decided that they are willing to pay a ‘weather tax’ to live here,” said Dan Schnur, director of the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times Poll and executive director of the Unruh Institute of Politics of USC. “Our weather is one of a series of quality of life and lifestyle issues that draw people here. Taxes are one aspect of a set of policy challenges like traffic, housing and the overall cost of living that discourage us. But on balance, most Californians have decided it’s a tradeoff worth making.”

But Californians largely aren’t disgruntled enough to pack their bags, the poll showed. Roughly 1 in 4 voters said they were more likely to move out-of-state now than in past years, and 46 percent of Californians said there was no real difference in their desire to move. Twenty-six percent said they were less likely now to move away than before.

Among voters who said they are more likely to move away, cost of living was a top reason to relocate (31%), followed by employment (20%), taxes and business climate (19%), government and politicians (12%), the cost of owning a home (11%) and traffic and overcrowding (11%).

“Living in California is no longer about striking it rich, but about looking past the high cost of living and shrinking opportunities for the lifestyle that it offers,” said Drew Lieberman, vice president of Democratic polling firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, part of the bipartisan team with Republican polling firm American Viewpoint that conducted the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times Poll. “There’s undoubtedly some real angst among Californians about the state of things. But given a binary choice between their finances and their lifestyle, at the end of the day, Californians will still pay a premium for what California offers.”

The market here is absolutely insane. I just passed a home on my way to work. Completely demolished to pave way for a new home. Probably sold for over $2mil not long ago. Another home was asking $2.2mil on the same block and just got sold and will most likely be torn down too.

I'm gonna have to have a ~40min commute to buy in this area.

Cost of living is not the sole determiner in these decisions.

I spent my childhood in Socal and There is no way in hell i'd move back to Socal. I'd move back to the Bay Area/Norcal is I got an incredible offer but mainly because thats is where my mom/family/friends are.

that link fucking sucks. people who make articles in that format should be quartered and drawn.

Agree but I want to go a step further. Before this third degree burns on the lower body. I couldn't get past the bullshit about 1/3 kids being hungry. I've never seen so many fat kids. I absolutely refuse to believe 33% of US kids "go hungry", particularly with the poor tending to be the very fattest. I know the claim is that fat kids are still hungry.
