What do you guys think of this drill?

I think i'm gonna stay away from a cordless drill this time. My 14.4v makita, while nice, is kinda annoying in that the battery dosent last very long from a charge, or if i havent used it in awhile, i have to charge it for awhile first...

Its rare that i would be in a situation that i couldnt use an extension cord, and i never plan to use it when the power is out.

That being said, think this one is good?

120V corded has more power than any cordless, costs less, and doesn't need the battery charged when you need it, as mentioned in the OP. Guess cordless ain't all that after all!

These lower end corded drills seem to be priced about 30% higher than they need to, probably because of the keyless chuck. $30.00 is the going price, and that one's probably as good as any.

I have the same one, and as the others have said it's a great drill.

BUT if you're a typical drill user that might not be what you want. Most homeowners use a drill mostly for driving screws. That drill isn't really good for driving screws - it's probably about 4x faster than your cordless drill, it doesn't have adjustable torque settings, and it doesn't stop when you let the trigger out like a cordless drill/driver will. Drill != drill/driver. (You can use it to drive screws, I've used mine for that in a pinch, but it's really too powerful so I prefer my cordless drill/driver)

That drill will probably outlast you......I get the impression you are not a tradesman, and will just use it around the house.

I have that drill, hasn't given me any problems. I also have two Hitachi drills, a cordless 14.4V one, and a 1/2" 5 amp hammer drill, and those haven't given me problems either. The DeWalt "feels" a bit sturdier, though.

Yes, they are all that and a bucket of chicken. I'd rather have a cordless drill over a corded one for just about every job I'd use one in. It's not just about power, it's about convenience. I have yet to run into something I can't drive with my cordless drill. Granted, I'm not a contractor out building houses, but I do my fair share of drilling around the house.

are you stuck in the 80's or something or do you just have it out for cordless drills? I use my cordless drill for screws exclusively unless it's computer or other electronic equipment.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say most people on this board assemble there PCs with simple screwdrivers. Same for their kid's toys that "need some assembly" and the occasional curtain rod. That also goes for people like the OP, who have a quick project to do, and their damn cordless needs charged before it will work.

I own 1/2" Milwaulkee cordless hammer drill, as well as their corded 1/2" Hole Shooter. MOST home owners, including me, still use a simple screwdriver even these days!

Mikita has never let me down. Their 28V cordless power tools (Drill, Sawzal (SP? wtf?), Circular saw) kick ass. Their corded ones are pretty damn good as well. Any reason not to go with Mikita corded tools? Ive been using them for 4+ years on job sites (commercial plumbing) and theyve always been good to me.

a standard cordless drill comes with two batteries...one is always charged.

I use cordless tools everyday.

Corded tools are dead

last drill i had lasted 15 years caught on fire 2 times the last time is what stopped it I bought this new one that has a removable head so I can switch from a drill to a flat head or Philips tool head. I Love corded Drills, I got a 100ft cord so i got no problem to reach any ware. The only problem with me and cordless drills is that u need to buy batteries and then charge them for about 8 hours and then while your half way done with your work it dies, then u need to get two batteries and then you need to charge em and baaahh.

Is trickle charging harmful to batteries?

• Many battery manufacturers do not recommend long term ( months at a time) trickle charging. If trickle charging is used then the charge rate should be very low or only intermittent. The best smart chargers will only send an occasional pulse charge to the battery once it is charged. They do not apply a continuous low rate of charge. Some battery resellers state that applying a continuous trickle charge of about 1/10th the battery's capacity is not harmful. However, we have not seen any battery manufacturer condone the practice.
  
  It is better to fully charge batteries and then store them fully charged in the freezer than to leave them on trickle charge for very extended periods of time.

Easier and cheaper to use a simple corded drill for occasional homeowner use... period!

for homeowners corded is better. but dont get a 3/8 chuck, get 1/2 inch

for people that use the tools at least once a week the cordless is good.

if you only use your drill 4 times a year, batteries last about 4-5 years at best

18v dewalt battery =75.00

you paid 3.75 per use + the initial cost.

LIES!!! when your wrappen up 800ft of extension cords after a 10 hr day you get to the point (around the end of the third day) where youd kill for a cordless set of tools
