What do you guys think of the: NewQ Platinum

It looks cool, but it is really useless in my opinion. If you have the money to blow and need some style points, then go for it. Don't downgrade any components in order to get it though.

Yes, upgrade your sound card before you buy a NewQ. If you want something cool looking, you could always buy a Hercules Game Theater XP.

thx

Its worth the $25 i paid for it a few months ago at compusa. Its NOT worth the $120 thinkgeek wants for it in that link however.

If the price is more than $75 for this equalizer, then why not just get a new soundcard like an Audigy OEM or the Audigy MP3/Gamer? You will have sound that you want and less to worry about.

I highly recommend the Hercules Game Theater XP. It's $97 shipped at Newegg for the OEM version, which happens to include exactly the same things as the Retail version, except for the pointless second cd. The cd you get with the OEM version is the same as the Retail version that includes drivers (though not for Win2k or WinXP), and various programs and equalizers.

The real benefit to this soundcard is that you can hook up a ton of stuff to it. In addition to mini plugs to connect various computer speakers, you can hook up 6 individual speakers through the larger plugs. The biggest benefit in my opinion is the 4 port USB hub built in. Upgrade your sound and add more USB ports--kill two birds with one stone!

Most importantly, it sounds great and looks really good. I have this mated to Klipsch Promedia 4.1's and all of my friends can't believe the quality of my sound system. I could not be more satisfied with the Game Theater XP. Cheaper than the Soundblaster offering and with a superior chip inside (same one as the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz if I'm not mistaken). Do it and you won't be dissappointed.

I have win xp. The Hercules Game Theater XP has no drivers for xp so I gess thats out.

Dus any one have win xp and a Hercules Game Theater XP? Dus it work?

I am running windows xp with my game theater xp and it works flawlessly. The drivers (version 4.10) on Hercules's website are universal drivers for any version of windows (98se to XP). There shouldn't be a problem using a game theater xp in windows xp.

Oooohh...pretty lights!

That's about all it would be for me. But I'm a sucker for blinking lights. If it were $25 and did nothing to the sound but just had an equalizer-like display of flashing lights tied in to the soundcard, I'd probably buy it.

basically the equalizer functions are ok, but a lot of the settings are useless (weird echos and reverb stuff) - the radio function is great though - esp. if (like me) your computer doubles as your stereo. Its also got some convenient audio jacks on the front. Bottom line: it looks damn cool but wont make a huge difference in your sound quality. Buy it if you can get a good price on it and want the radio functionality.

There has been drivers for the GTXP and Windows XP out for awhile now. The latest 4.10 drivers are the second set of "official" XP drivers. You can get them here.

"For Win 9x/ ME / 2K /XP "
