i tried them out, they are really cool and easy to switch, you just turn the dial on one side of the dumbell and the ammount of weight you selected stays attached to the bar. Id defintiely get them had i not had a gym membership.

i see quite a bit of TV infomercials on it

never really paid attention because of the $400+ price tag with the stand

until I got a catalog from one of my rewards membership accounts which I can get these dumbbells for free.

Actually I misread the catalog,

it's actually Nautilus SelectTech and not BowFlex SelectTech.

I assume they're still the same set of dumbbells.

The seem cheaply built, flimsy, and awkward to use. Plus I could buy a full set of dumbells, a rack, and a really nice bench for the same price.

FWIW, I do own a Bowflex Extreme machine so I'm not a hater of the brand.

hmm.. i forget what they are called.. power blocks maybe? They are MUCH better than the bowflex ones, especially if you can lift more than 52 pounds. I thought of getting those bowflex ones a while back, but then realized they would be all but worthless for anything except bicep curls and front raises. I believe the (power blocks?) can go over 100lbs / dumbell.

edit: and you can even get a barbell type attachement to hook the dumbells together to do squats and barbell type exercises.
