What do you guys think about this P4 setup?

2) Nwood 2.2 OEM for $450 @ Dallas memory
3) Swiftech MCX 478 for $72.50 @ Sidewinder computer
4) 512mb PC-800 for free (already own)
5) Asustek Geforce 4 4600 (330/660) for $425 @ Mark One computers

Total: 1115.50 (ouch)

Sounds like a ripoff! I spent a quarter of that on a better Athlon system! Wait for XP 2200+ which will use thouroughbred core. I think that the Northwood is better for the P4, but still doesnt offer what AMD can offer for much much less.

Very awesome system. Btw, where'd you get the 2.2 NW for $450? Dallasmemory.com's lowest 2.2 NW price is $594. The lowest price on pricewatch for a 2.2 NW is $470 not including shipping.

Btw, good choice for the video card. Maybe wait a little for the price to go down?

Not bad, but beware of the P4T-E. I've heard that some of them come with inferior clock generator chips that grind overclocking to a halt.

I see you spent a total of $278.88 for an Athlon system with a GeForce 4 4600. Since that video card currently is about $425, you must have covinced some company to give you a processor/motherboard/fan and give you $146.13 all for nothing! That was a great deal majewski9. Can you please tell me how to get in on that deal?

Last I checked AMD wasnt offering 500-1000mhz overclocks with retail cooling.

yeah, a 135 dollar 1.6A can o/c to 2.2 which will perform better than a 2000+ which costs 245 or so.

Um, the GF4 4600 is 425 alone, and nearly half of her total there. THINK before typing.

RAMBUS is suck, I'm afraid. That said, the P4T-E is a rock solid mainboard.

Personally, I'd look at an i845D / SiS 645 solution. Then again, since you already have a couple RDRAM modules...

As for the GF4 Ti4600 ... YEAH BABY! 😀

hehe...really, RDRAM is great, but its rambus (as in the company) which truly 'is suck' 😛

if only it was an open standard, RDRAM would 0WN!! 😀

That is a ripoff for the Mobo. Abit TH7II can be had only for $150 and it ocs better than P4T-E will even with the top clock generators. Otherwise, it looks great. Personally, I'd get a 1.6A,1.8A, or 2A rather than pay big bucks for 2.2 but that's your choice. If you were to get a 1.8A and go to 133fsb, you would have easily the fastest P4 system avialable (if your RDRAM can hit PC1066)

Totally agree🙂. Stick with your choice for RDRAm over DDR fkloster. You won't be sorry.

The only thing I sorta wonder is if getting an OEM Intel processor these days is the right thing to do.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it'll only come with a 90-day warranty as opposed to 3 years for retail..?

OEM warranties are set by whoever you buy it from.

its a damn fast system but not the best overclocking target, since its already the top of intel's yields.

the fan on the swiftech is pretty unbearable. i've got swiffer insulting the inside of the case and a hand towel draped over the exhaust fans to keep the noise down. i can now hear myself think. might go to home depot to get some slightly longer screws and some rubber washers to isolate the fan better. but its really nice having a pound and a half of heatsink. that works on any athlon MB. do that with your alpha.
