The Republicans do not care about moving the country forward. At all. Hell, "conservative" means holding things back, resisting change, etc.No they need to compromise to move the country forward. They are acting like grade schoolers in a sandbox.
Hopefully some GOP members come to realize that putting party above country is not a good strategy. Not too hopeful though.
Will congress become uselessly gridlocked again?
One thing the Republitards who have brains(a fast diminishing amount) have to worry about is this:
They have to do something to avoid the fiscal cliff and there is no chance they won't have to compromise on some things.
Then 2014 comes around and what if the economy is doing pretty well? The Tea Party will have been screaming for two years about a betrayal. They would be going to the polls madly to get rid of any of the compromising Republitards.
You could see a massive Democratic sweep in 2014
<---Middle class checking in and doing just fine. I can afford plenty of shit. There is no chance economy will be doing well. We are circling the drain straddled by debt and an ever shrinking middle class written off 30 years ago who can't afford shit. Only thing saving us is 3 QE's and govt spending is half borrowed money which can't last forever.
A fiscal cliff will screw the economy for a while. Not a couple of months but a few years. One thing the Republitards who have brains(a fast diminishing amount) have to worry about is this:

How many government contracts are going to get frozen and/or canceled.
Look at the panic mode Obama went into w/ respect to Lockheed in VA over sending out layoff notices before the election.
No new expensive items will come off the lines - there goes the skilled worker middle class on unemployment (1/4 pay)
Some R&D work gets shut down (1/8 pay).
Even contracts like building cleaning and maintenance will get adjusted to cut costs; delay from weekly to every other week. People have the responsibility to take out their own trash.
Money flowing from the National Highway Transportation Authority and FAA to upgrades & new technology will be curtailed.
Safety inspections by the Coast Guard will be reduced due to ability to maintain the fleet and fuel.
It is not like everything will get sliced by 10% (or whatever the figure is).
Certain this can not get sliced; as a result others take a higher brunt.
None of that is going to happen. Even if Jan1 rolls around without a compromise Obama can just keep spending money at the same levels until a deal is reached. The President has complete authority in this area.
There is NO way the Republitards will stonewall and not compromise. The ensuing meltdown you have pointed out would doom them. Full control of Congress in 2014 for the Dems. It might even spell the end of the Republican party.
QE 3 Did not save anyone. It only weakened our dollar and opened the floodgates for inflation. It just hasnt got here yet. I think the states have just about spent all the Extra money they had on road construcion projects. So know we might have to start using real money which no one has.
The gridlock was voted in by stronger numbers, seems the people said lets go with status quo.
Didn't Republicans lose seats in the House? The gridlock was voted in by stronger numbers, seems the people said lets go with status quo.
