BMW pwns just about anything under it's wheels (so long as you have a warranty).

For your use, a wagon would be better than 95% of the cars I see in south florida.

Good choice, and you have my support.

 Thanks brotha

I really like the xi, but once again it starts getting expensive, AND i live in L.A. I don't have much need for the awd, its just kinda cool. And like I said I used to drive an M3 and am use to rwd.

That was the other thing, the A3 is front wheel drive...and when i test drove it that drove me nuts.....i didn't even realize it was front wheel drive until the test drive and went around a corner and accelerated, and just said "Oh ******...is this thing freakin front wheel drive?" and the guy said yeah, they dont have rear wheel drive...they have quattro, but its only on the 3.2 vr6 and then you get way pricey so eff that.

The Volvo wagons were RWD up until 1997. The V70R is AWD, and has one of those buttons that lets you switch suspension modes.

I think anyone who buys a BMW wagon is a retard. If you are going to pay $30k for a car, the word "wagon" better not be associated with it.

Wait, you're worried about being stereotyped as a soccer mom, and you drive an SUV?

Just get what feels good to you. I think wagons and hatches are practical ways of getting more than enough storage for your average driver. Modern wagons are also a far cry from the wood-paneled monstrosities of the 70's.

I'm looking to change cars. Even though I just got a car last year, I am really upset with myself for getting such a gas guzzler. I got a V8 VW touareg....i LOVE the car. In most everyway, but I feel guilty (this is not a global warming thread or anything, so please try to stay on topic), so I'm going to change cars.

The reason I got an SUV in the first place wasn't so much for the offroading as for the ability to take a bunch of stuff. I go backpacking a few times a year, I do some framing (art), I do a bunch of mountian biking and some rock climbing. I play golf. Basically I need room.

Now, a nice large trunk would do most of that stuff....but the other part of the equation is that I have a golden retriever. She likes to come hiking and biking and she LOVES to go swimming. I would really like to have a vehicle that I can put her "in the back".

Finally, I'm not married and this is my only car, so the added space is really valuable if i need to buy or move furniture or whatever.

So that lead me initially to the A3 as it gets up to 32 mpg, and seemed nice. But after test driving it was just TOO small.

I used to drive an M3 (e36) and I think BMW is one of the best two car makers on the planet. I could get a 3 series station wagon as long as i dont pile on the options, which puts it over 40K, so I can keep it around 36, which is still more than i wanted to spend, but for THE ULTIMATE DRIVING station wagon, i guess I can swing it.

But all my friends are calling me lame and a soccor mom. I dont really care, eff them..when they see it all black with tinted windows they'll dig it.

But i wanted to get an idea of the general consensus from you guys?

Cool or lame?

Soccer mom vehicle=SUV, not wagon.

I agree, I drive a v40 wagon.

My car ownership:

VW GTI
B5 Passat Wagon
Mazda3 hatch...I'm a sucker for hatches/wagons.

I'm really liking the new B6 Passat wagons. You can get the 2.0T with the sport package now too.

Not the sport package, but sharp. 25MPG in town, 32'ish on the highway. Enough room for a pony keg and a couple dead hookers in the back. Weeeeeeeeee!

Ugly. Wagon.

Was there anything else?

Wagon's are for Taurus owners. ;)

the VW Toureg is the ULTIMATE soccer-mom-mobile. when i see one, i give it a wide berth because i know the woman behind the wheel is painting her nails and yelling at her kids at the same time.

when i see a 3-series wagon, i imagine a 20-something dude who like outdoors activities and likes to drive, but has enough money to afford something nicer than a WRX. dude, that's you.

the 850, which was released in 1993, was front wheel drive. it spawned turbo and T5-R versions, both with front-wheel drive. its name was later changed to the V70, and it got a facelift before being redesigned under Ford's ownership.
