What do you think about series of thermaltake PSU?

is it a good and stable PSU for oced cpu?

is it a future proof PSU for dual core cpu?
 
Well, I have a TT 420W PS that works just fine.. most people here don't seem terribly keen on TT products overall, but I have no complaints. Solid performance, relatively quiet, cools well.. there are better PS's out there, but for $36 it was a good deal for a solid PS. I have two and they both work great.

 
Solid performance, reliable, yes.

Relatively quiet? Heck no. Not with two 80mm eggbeater fans on that PSU it isn't. :laugh:
 
I have seen a rash of bad 480's...I personally feel there are much better supply's out there...ThermalTake compared to what else is out there for the same money is...Well no comparison...I always recommend people not to buy TheramlTakes...Bang for the Buck is just not there and I have worked on many box's that the ThermalTake power supply caused the problem...And with 3 480's in the last few months contributing to motherboard and processor failures...That about sezzz it all for me.

I owned a Buttefly 480W (VERY silent) and now I own a Purepower 680W which is silent... Abou estability this one is just great, the other had a little weak 12V rail, but never game me problems with stability, just low readings (11,5V).

So If you avoid 18A 12V single rails and buy some with more power this are great PSUs.
 
I have a Thermaltake PS in my current primary rig and I am replacing it with an OCZ modstream simply because of the noise factor. I am tired of having a vacuum cleaner sitting on my desk.

That said, the TT is a reliable powersupply. The 12v rail is a tad low for my taste, but I am a fan of overvolting.
 
Pretty reliable PSU. Not the quietest, but it will do in systems that aren't built with power hungry parts.

If you plan on investing for the future, you might want to look at something else because all newer stuff draws more from the 12v rail.
 
it'll power your system just fine if that's all you care about.

personally, I think Fortron/Sparkle is a better bang for the buck, plus they have 120mm fan versions

The 420s ARE noisy. Two 80mm, high-speed fans. I don't know about the particular models you have, but the 420's fans are NOT adjustable. Lasted one month in my machine before I threw it out.

Thermaltake at the very least is guilty of misrepresentation by advertising that 420W unit as "Silent Purepower." Silent it is not.

I doubt you have heard of a truly quiet PSU before. I'm talking about the ones with low-speed 120mm vibration-dampening-mounted fans and a large-area honeycomb grille in the back, such as the ones recommended by Silent PC Review.
 
I have the buterfly 480W w/active PFC no complaints, lots of connectors, stable 11.84 votlage when I run Q&C 11.77 when OC. Buy the one with the adjustable speed control if you like to be quiet, it can get loud otherwise. Works on my a8n and they are picky, I read a couple reviews of this particular one, most had said that this was better quality PSU then they had seen from TT as of recent and gave it a good rating.

It does not come with a 24pin connector but does have the adaptor. It does have a SATA adadptor built in.

There seems to be a love \ hate thing with Tt products so you are sure to get some wide opinions. I've used 2 of the 420W PSUs and have been very happy with them so far. To be honest, I got a much better product than I expected but that doesn't mean I would fully endorse one for high end use over the long haul. It would take a while for me to gain trust in one before using it for a high wattage system, so I still still trust someone like Antec, Fortron, Enermax, etc. for the long run.

I'm using an Antec TP430 right now that I bought 2 or 3 years ago, or whenever the KT266 chipset was the hot setup. I've used it with an XP1700, XP2400, XP2800 and now a Newcastle 3800 with a RADEON9800 and the rails are still strong and stable.
 
OK, well yeah, I guess it's not "relatively quiet".. but it's not overly noisy, or maybe I've just had real crappy noisy PS's in the past... 🙂 Anyway, yeah, people either love or hate TT it seems. It works for me, I'm not one of these people who's like "TT RULEZ", and I know there's certainly worse stuff out there, so.. for what it's worth...
 
i have the 480 xaser with 2 480 fans. came with both a pci slot and 5-1/4" control panel for the fans. on quiet, i's fine, turn it up 13 the way and it's loud and full is just ridiculous.

but i measured the rails with a multi and the are very stable although the 12v is somewhat weak at 18 amp. depends on what you are running. i have a p4 2.4c, 1 gig ram, 2 hdd, 2 opticals, a fan controller, 4 case fans and a 6800gt and a pvr card. no problem.
 
TT Butterfly 480W is very silent Also my actual PSU is silent. And is very very stable:

3.3V--->3.33V (doesn't move at all from there)
5V----->5.08V (doesn't move at all from there)
12V---> 12.14 to 12.08

And any review you read says the same I do. A had a good deal on this PSU, I heard in USA is quite expensive ($189). I got it for 119?, quite cheap and just a great product.

I paid $90 us about 3 weeks ago from ZZF for the W0019 w/active PFC and extra fan control.
 
I would definately take a Purepower 680 over whatever every other company has for high wattage PSUs, other than the PC Power & Cooling's 850W. The Silent Purepower 480W is definately silent if you use the controller thing.
