I'm excited to see how Borderlands 2 on PC pans out, they made some solid promises this time around. Now they just have to deliver.

what promises? From what i heard, theyre not changing much. I remember hearing that the graphics would be about the same as the last. Fine with me btw, i preordered yesterday from GMG.

Also i agree with controller support. Im actually using K+B more than controller now, but i also have a computer in the living room, and games that cant use controller dont get played at all out there.

Which is why i like borderlands so much, the controller feels great, so i dont feel like im that much worse with it. Same goes for space marine. BF3 has awful controller support. Itll work a little bit, but action buttons dont work, and overall it just feels awful. (aiming is terrible, feels much better on console for some reason, there are other games like this as well)

Jesus christ how hard can it be to add controller support to a game that is designed for consoles?!

One thing ill add to this list is split screen gaming. My friends and i play COD split screen on 360, and 4 way gaming is a lot of fun. I have the same game for PC, it has controller support, so it would be nice to play the game on PC where we would get much better graphics per small box, but nope, not supported on PC. Even mw3 doesnt let you do co-op survival mode (spec ops i think?, but then again mw3 doesnt even have controller support to begin with)

Besides that im just praying next gen consoles are enough that we start getting some really good looking games on PC. Sucks being held back by consoles that came out in 2005.

Remember GTA IV, basically take everything that that game had )performance and spec wise) patch it to the latest (and worst) patch then reverse it, THATS what a good port should be.

Look up a program called Xpadder, it makes every game have controller support.

Best console port I've played on the PC so far has been Darksiders.

What disappoints me the most about Darksiders is the texture quality. The textures seem really bland on the PC, which makes me think that they used the same ones as on the console.

Although, the game definitely looks a hell of a lot better than the console version. When I was choosing what to buy Darksiders II on, I played the game on my monitor and it looked terrible. While the PC version may use some simple textures, at least it looked very crisp.

I think the best console port on the PC is Alan Wake.

- Seriously upgraded graphics
- Runs well
- Has good controls
- Has all the plethora of PC console options (FXAA, SSAO, etc.)
- Costs less than the console versions were
- Has Steam support

The improvements are definitely there over the console versions in every way. That's what a console port should be like for me - where I can't even tell it was a console game (admittedly, Alan Wake was original a PC game, which is probably why this comparison is not really fair :)).

I second this. Alan Wake is the best originally console game. However MS put enough time into it to make it much more than a mere console port.

been using pinnacle game profiler for a week or so, and its pretty awesome. Ill probably end up buying it when my 30 day trial runs out. How does it compare? i might try it out.

But still, the point i was trying to make is when they dont put actual support in, it always just feels much worse than the console. Maybe its auto aim assist or something but i can tell you when playing BF3 with a controller, i cant aim at all. On the console its pretty different.

And would it hurt to to the controller commands on screen if your gonna make the game controller compatible? I know a lot of the GFWL has it, but i dont understand why so many games dont, and you just have to know all the buttons.

The PC port was all Remedy. It was Microsoft who blocked the PC port and delayed it for so long.

My brother has a Wii and owns Resident Evil 4 on it.
Its great and the aim ect works well with the wii remote.

I tried the pc version and holy faaaack..... that is a bad consol port.

The graphics are the same textures as the wii version, even though it would be easy to make it look a million times better with Hi-res textures. There are people that make mod(s) to games, and there was a high texture quality pack, that made it look 100 times better.

However.... I couldnt figour out how to get to use the mouse to aim with.
What the hell kinda bad port is the game when your useing your keyboard to aim with?
And worse is how it worked, it was like even when you hold down a button, it would move in small incresements and then stop, and automatically move another bit (if ur still holding the key down) ect.

It sucked sooooo much, I was like wtf? did they do any work on this consol port? how could they not notice the interface + gameplay doesnt work on the keyboard as is? why isnt the pistol aim made for the mouse?

Then I uninstalled it.
Lesson learned? they dont care about PC ports.
If you want to play a consol game, get the consol for it.

**edit: also they might wonder why it doesnt sell for pc?
yeah, they dont think its because they do sh**ty work on ports.... nope couldnt possibly be their fault.

haha that is awesome! 2k really takes care of its PC gamers, im surprised they arent as revered as valve considering they actually put out games. I was tentative to buy Borderlands 2 right away because i have a ton of games to play, and id rather pay <$20 for it, but i like the first one so much, i dont feel bad giving them my money.

As for FOV sliders... i usually never mess with them. Is it really a feature that a lot of people were asking for?

The FOV in Borderlands 1 was utterly terrible and was made for Consoles, where you sit a distance from the TV. Like most other console ports. So it was a must to adjust the FOV to play on a PC screen. Since you sit much closer to the screen.

1. Proper keyboard support is crucial. The feel of the mouse/keyboard is different from a controller. I expect to be able to use the mouse and keyboard for a more precise gameplay experience.

2. Proper graphics optimization. I expect low resolution textures and a no shader option. I expect different resolutions, not just 720p or 1080p, but the option to go to 480p and lower for less powerful video cards.

Keep in mind that 2K is just the publisher... Gearbox is the developer.

Fortunately, you could fix that with the Borderlands config tool. It also let you do other things like disable the opening movies.

I dunno about Borderlands, but bad FOV is a common complaint I hear for the PC versions of the Mass Effect games. Personally I appreciate the FOV control in Deus Ex.

Well...yeah. I wouldn't call it "optimization", more like "dumbing down", but still. Not everyone can afford to buy a desktop or laptop with moderately powerful graphics cards. Low resolution textures and low precision effects should be an option. Going down to 480p is a little ridiculous to ask for though. The lowest option most games support now is 800x600, IIRC, and that should be just fine.

The ironic thing is that, with the way Intel and AMD are going, graphics integrated onto the processor are going to be as good or better than console graphics. So the need for low graphics settings is becoming less and less (at least until the next console generation). I mean, no one expects to run modern games on a Pentium 3 processor and 3DFX graphics chips, do they?

...do they?

I expect my PC ports to give lulz and create memes so Mario Is Missing is the gold standard. :)

You give that port to much credit. The PC port is based off the PS2 port so the PC version has worse graphics than the GCN/Wii version. The first EU release didn't have any lighting either so everything was full bright.
