when you can boot from the xp cd to reformat
and no matter what boot disk you try to make to fdisk with
it tells you invalid version of dos. keep in mind the OS can no
longer be accesed. any suggestions?

i would pull the drive and put it in another pc as a slave and try again. or try partion magic.

sounds like maybe you are using a Windows Start-up disk. Try just formating a floppy with the create MS DOS start-up disk option checked.

make sure you copy fdisk to it also (if it isn't already there after the format)

I dont know what your saying in that post I think you left out some words!

Dreadogg,

I didn't have a clue what he was asking either, but figured he was making thing more complicated than necessary using fdisk and xp.

heya bustone? wanna clarify your question alittle?

want to reformat
cant get into the os
using the xp cd as a boot disk prompts the pc to just freeze
trying to fdisk from dos is impossible because any bootdisk i've tried making says it's the incorrect version.
though at least now i know it's dr-dos 7.03

anyways, i just want to reformat the pc and re-install win xp. that's all =(
