With the prices these things are getting down to I'm starting to get that "itch" to try one out.
So tell me, what do you use yours for?
In fact, do you still use it or is it like that Nordic Track, relegated to the back bedroom?
Do you find it naturally usefull or do you need to force yourself to find uses for it so you can justify the money you spent?
What software do you run on it that didn't come bundled? And where did you get it?
What do you find yourself using it for that you hadn't thought of when you purchased it?

So, What do you think? Thanks for all your opinions.

I use mine all the time. When I got it (Cassiopea e-125) I made sure to get a big memory card and then I I sold my MP3 player.

This thing works great as an MP3 player, but also a video player. I watch the Simpsons on it all the time. :)

I'm looking for an 802.11b wireless card for it so I can do some basic browsing while in class at school. I already have Acrobat Reader to keep up with my course notes (they're all published in PDF) and I use the calendar for a lot of things, including homework and such.

I also use it for some of my work with AnandTech. I use Pocket Excel to keep charts of benchmarks I'm working on because I don't always have access to any one computer depending on what I'm testing right then. I have a Compact Flash network card for it and I've used it on at least three ocassionas to diagnose troubles in a LAN. I also have a Compact Flash 56k modem and use it to keep up with email while I'm out of town (when I can't lug a laptop around).

On top of that, I've used AIM on there while on vacation. A little tedius to have long chats, but I just needed to get some quick info and it worked perfectly.
It comes with Internet Explorer too- It can do pretty much any site out there provided it isn't required to run Java or Flash.

Try to do that on a Palm. :)

My only complaint is with the E-125 screen. It's beautiful indoors, but the HAST LCD technology completely washes out when you're outdoors. The sidelit, reflective LCD is much better for all-purpose viewing and isn't too much less brilliant in dim light. The iPaq and the new Cassiopea E-200 both use this type of screen.

That said, I *love* the new Cassiopea E-200. Its better looking than the iPaq, includes both a Compact Flash and SD memory slots and it has sleeve technology like the iPaq so you can get a PCMCIA sleeve. It also has the faster StrongARM 206MHz CPU and 64MB of RAM, plus the PocketPC 2002 (which is better looking than standard PocketPC).

So?

They rawk!

I have had a Palm IIIc for quite a while and once you have a PDA you wwill wonder how you ever lived without one. I currently have a Toshiba e570 on order and it should be here any day. If you can afford a PDA, I recommend it. My "non-techie" brother just got a visor handspring and he is enjoying it big-time.

I use mine for tons of stuff.

The basics are just tons of documents I keep with me at any given time, for instance, install instructions/setup info for some very picky applications here at work. IP addresses and computer names. Hardware/Software lists.

I use the contacts ALL the time, I actually had to send my unit off for 5 days to get a new screen and I couldn't call a couple people because I didn't have their numbers anywhere else. (I sync with my work computer)
I use the calendar occasionally for anything that's more than a couple days away.
MP3s of course. (256mb CF Card)
I read the news on it using AvantGo and Mazingo.

I'm also working on getting some software set up that will allow me to manage our webservers and keep track of them from anywhere, wirelessly. I'll be able to check CPU/Mem usage, start/stop services, check processes, etc. etc.

Right now I have an HP Jornada 548 (that I got from the FS/FT forum of course), which I will be getting rid of soon, due to the fact I have an iPAQ coming in at the end of this week/beginning of next week, I need the expansion capabilities.

I just ordered an 802.11b Access point and card as well.

About being naturally useful, I did have to force myself to use my earlier one a little. I had a Nino with CE 2.11. It just wasn't as easy to use, the interface was clumsier, it didn't have much expansion room, etc. The Jornada though, as I'm sure with all PPCs is very useful, and I end up looking for it because I need it more than wondering what to do with it.

I looked on your profile, and you're from Washington. A good thing to do if you have are near the Seattle area and have a chance is go to a PSHUG (Puget Sound Handheld Users Group) meeting. There are always lots of demos and stuff, and the other people there are more than happy to show you what they do with their device and stuff like that. Sometimes people even have devices or accessories they are willing to sell due to upgrading or whatnot, and you may get a good deal, along with some software or something.

The site is PSHUG and the meeting page hasn't been updated yet, but there is a meeting at the MS campus on either the second or third week of January. You should come by and check it out. PM me if you want some info, or if you want to find me there or something. I'll show you some of what I do with mine and what some of the other guys do. It's pretty cool.

No admission charge or anything, there is even stuff given away, it's an open invitation to anyone who wants to show up.

What kind of software is available for these things. Will they run any windows software or does everything have to be ported over to PocketPC? If so how's the availability?

Are they usable out of the box or do you need to add alot of extras(ie compact flash, modem, microdrive....)?

Why do I want one of these instead of a laptop?
