I did replay the original Deus Ex at least a couple of times and Hitman 2 as well. Hitman 2 was amazing IMO and it was fun every single time I played it.

I kept trying to up my ranking, kill guys using different weapons/stealth/etc.. Just an awesome game! In fact, I wonder if I still have it lying around...

do you watch favourite movies over-and-over ?
I like watching good movies again but not as often as games since watching a movie is not the same as playing the game.

With game replays I can try different paths, finding all secrets, etc and I can enjoy the game more after a hardware upgrade.

Kinda like watching a movie after buying a bigger TV. ;)

have you ever *completely replayed* any game five years after you first completed it?
Most definitely - the best example is a few months ago I finished the original Quake for the twelfth time, having originally played it under software 320x240 @ 25 FPS back in '96 or '97.

For my dozenth playthrough I played it on a 7900 GTX at 1920x1440 with 16xAF and 8xS running at a constant 90 FPS.

I've also finished Unreal eight times and plan on playing it again in the future. I actually finish most games at least five times or more.

radical ... to me .... thanks for sharing

i think i approach my game very differently ... if i like it, i try to find *every* path and secret the first time thru ... and i read a walkthru immediately AFTER i am done [or almost done, if i didn't like it as well] and make sure i complete *everything*

of course, for RPGs, it usually means an immediate RePlay, as in the case of Fable where there are two totally different paths ... of course, i am just getting into Vampire Bloodlines and then will have PS:T ... so it could be "awhile"

perhaps because i have such a big game "pool" to look at, i don't even consider RePlaying .... especially now that i am trading and getting into the *classics* i missed

Any time i was *tempted* to RePlay was because i didn't have a new game or demo ... and like with Thief -DS, i put it away halfway thru the second run to play a new game.

i really liked Unreal ... but i can't picture firing it up again

add that to my *list* :p

and for me ... i couldn't watch LotR - my favourite movie of the last 20 years - on ANY TV until the extra content was released after viewing it in the cinema ... maybe again in ten years

IMO not replaying good games is almost as bad as never playing them to begin with.

Quoted because it's simply an awesome quote.

it's as silly to the rest of us as saying:
IMO not watching a good movie over again is almost as bad as never watching it to begin with.
it *only* makes sense to hoarders & RePlayers.

Yes, it probably only makes sense to those same others that share the notion, but, for me, the comparison to movies isn't quite as fair. Yes, I do watch my favorite movies over and over, but I'll also watch just *ok* movies over and over if they have something worth studying-- i.e. really good dialog, fight scenes, plot points, etc.... See, I'm a screenwriter by hobby/degree (telecom network engineer by trade) and, while I greatly enjoy movies, it's also research/work to me too. So my re-watching movies matches up to my replaying games purely by coincidence, imo.

I've traded LOTS of games. Even if EB/Gamestop did still trade pc games their values are total crap. I would give games away before trading with those guys any more. I keep quite a few in my private "archives" for replay value or just collectibility.

I actually gave a bunch of them away about three years ago.
Really wish I hadnt. I'd like to play some of them now, and they were all titles you just cant get anymore.

i made a personal rule for myself ... *no regrets*

but sometimes i regret i made that rule :p

i realize i am not going to *experience everything* ... but i am going for as much as possible ... and - for me - it means not replaying games that i have fully covered ;)

everytime i trade or sell a game i check to make sure it is not *rare* ... and in 35 years of gaming it hasn't happened yet [most of 'those' games are in *mint* condition ... none of mine ever are ... very good, but not mint]

otoh, i DO have some nice 33-1/3 Vinyl that IS rare [inc 1st edition Sgt Peppers/French ed] and band-signed CDs [all the members of 311 on their 1st 3 CDs, etc] ... so i tend to collect other things :)

I hardly ever pick up a game that I am 'done' with. And I do hate having a bunch of games just lying there. But I usually just keep them.

Sucks to have to admit I rarely go back to replay anything I finished even a few months ago. There just ain't many things good enough. Think I replayed 3/4 of FEAR a few months after finishing, GRAW I redid right after finishing. Diablo and WoW don't really count since those are more like shooting 'up' than replaying. As much as I love Oblivion, I still haven't gone back to add more to teh 192 hours I put in. Think what puts me off is the craptastic graphics and simplicity of older stuff.

It's worth posting a wtt/wtb thread now and then if you have a want list. People have a lot of stuff salted away that they're sometimes willing to part with if requested, and that includes me. I have stuff that I consider rare but probably won't (or can't) replay. If I feel that they can go where they're appreciated then it's easier to let go of them.

Oh, the latest mod for Q3 ...
:Q

you know, i never played it

or Q1 or 2 :p

i am just really "getting into" [really into] Vampire: Bloodlines [VtMB], the game i traded for Red Faction

absolutely *stunning* for '04 for "old Source" [doesn't ssStutter] and the Unofficial patch 3.3 DOES make it very stable ... one crash after like ten hours ... and it has *depth* ... a great story-driven action-RPG ... in fact, i started over after i got a "feeL" for it [playing as Gangrel and trying to 'max' humanity] ... i am just getting into the LA quests ... *love* it

and i SO glad i now "know" what to do with Old PC games

RePlay 'em

Sell 'em

or

Trade 'em

Don't let them sit otherwise ...
[unless they are "rare"]

thanks for all the views ...
OPENED my eyes ;)

I guess I'm radical, I even have a legacy box that covers the "early epoch" - basically anything pre-XP that doesn't get along with it... or dual cores... or other assorted modern trappings.

Nostalgia I guess... All of the games that I keep playable had something about them that makes me want to go back and spend some time in their world, even if I've seen all of it 10 times already. I just enjoy "being there" every now and then. LGS games especially. I'll go to lengths to keep Thief and SS playable.

I never keep old games. I've probably played a hundred the last few years and I only have 4 here on my desk. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to say I *ever* have more than 4 or 5 at a time. I just try to buy as low as possible on the forums and frankly sell as high as possible just to get enough to put toward my next game purchase. Kind of like stocks. :) Make sense? But the caveat to that is that I often rebuy. For instance, I can think of 3 or 4 games (and this is probably a poor decision financially) that I've sold and rebought (is that a word?) because I felt like playing it again. I've literally purchased, sold, repurchased, resold, and then picked up Farcry a 3rd time because I liked it so much....... Done 2 go 'rounds each with Max Payne 2 and Painkiller IIRC. I almost never replay games, so seldom do I get burned if I resell. I have to really like it to miss it. But it does happen. And mind you, it also has to be a good deal for a repurchase. I rarely pay more than $ 10 for a game, period. Even new ones. People who don't venture into FS/FT have no idea how cheaply some games can be had.
