I haven't found a lot of games over the years with any long-term replay value, so I try to sell games while they're still relatively new/popular/in demand. I've also given some away here in the freebie thread

I keep any game I've played through. They're all special to me in one way or another. Some games I didn't really take to, and I'll get rid of them if I find an easy chance to.

These are the games in my collection "keepers"
RTCW
MOHAA
COD
every Unreal game in the series
Half Life series
Max Payne series
Dark Messiah
Fable
Oblivion? I haven't played that one yet, but it was a gift from a friend so I'll probably keep it.
Doom series
Quake 4? I haven't played that yet, but will probably keep out of loyalty to ID lol
Chronicles of Riddick

I replay them regularly.

i don't have time and i am *always* looking for something new and good

--new to me

and *amazingly* i got a PM that will let me trade DE-IW for PlanetscapeTorment
:Q

both of us wanted to play each other's game and - although i LOVED it - i know i will never replay DE-IW [i *tried* ... several times and would just play "parts" ... i *know* what is going to happen and the 'thrill' is gone]

so as i said, i am modifying my class from Hoarder to Trader

if i haven't RePlayed it in the past 3 years, i never will ;)

let someone else enjoy it as i also satisfy my craving for 'new' ...

... for the cost of postage

i don't even think i should bother to insure it :p
--maybe - insure for $10 - costs an extra buck so they can 'track' it ... it IS the USPS, after all

good gawd ... i got Vampire:Bloodlines, MoHPA, and now, hopefully, PlanetScapeT for postage ....

now that is *Real Bargain Bin*
:gift:

and the ultimate way to recycle

in my humble opinion
:D

EDIT: i know how you feel, Soviet ... i just installed DE-IW to make sure the very minor scratches on either CD did not interfere with installation or play and also to make sure there was no CD-key ...
. . . as i exited it for the LAST timea few minutes ago, i felt that "twinge" of loss and *regret* as letting a truly *awesome* game go - even though i will never replay it, it was a great 40 hours. :(

BUT that will *fade* when i tear into my new package next week
... and there is no loss at all ... only *gain* :)

PS:T is a great RPG storywise... 640x480 is the only real downside.

The only games that tend to have replay value are RPGs. BG2, for example, has had an amazing lifespan. Shooters on the other hand are almost always one and done.

I reloaded KOTOR and KOTOR2 on my Vista x64,having fun playing them again,no matter how many times I play them, found a game stopper bug in KOTOR2 too,but read how to avoid it if I reload from my autosave.

I play some of my old games when I have no new games or have some free time.

i really like hearing what other gamers do ... i am just finding my own way again

i really liked KotOR and SL ... my first top down D&D game that i really *loved* ... the story was just short of spectacular and generally [at their best] the equal of the first 3 SW movies ... and i spent a LOT of time playing thru *everything* ...

i just can't ReLoad it :p

i spent 1,250 hours in Oblivion ... it might have saved my sanity during a series of personal crisis this last Summer ... including serious illness, serious illness and near death of a family member and a 3 week long huge wild fire that raged near my property in the foothills.

i almost get nauseous if i try to play it ... i can't even finish Knights of the Nine ... although i hope it will pass by the time the Xpack is out

of course that was pretty *extreme* ... but i don't watch even favourite movies again for many years

of course it is RPG and the story is the crucial element ... i wonder how 6x4/120hz looks with 8xAA/16xAF/v*synched at 100+fps...
probably better than the devs intended :p

i guess i will find out

trading games gives even FPS a second chance ... Thief - DS is the closest i ever got to replaying a game almost completely ... i should check ... isn't there a fan made expansion due in a year ow two?

and of course i have Thief 2 and the TX2 expansion i won't replay ... oh yeah ... KotOR1/2 ... but i will try Oblivion ... again

I kept all the discs and manuals, but sadly threw away most of the boxes from my beginnings with gaming in 1995 up until 2004 when I started keeping those too.

I keep all my games (as well as the manuals and boxes; still have boxes for a few things from the early 90s), since I replay them all the time. Actually, that's about all I have been doing for the last eight months.

I'll generally just sell them. Really old games I'll just give away. For example a few months ago I gave away Full Throttle in the AnandTech freebies thread (after loading it up and playing through it one last time, of course :p ).

Console games I try to sell them on Amazon, last one I sold was Zelda: Twilight Princess, cost me only $22 to play that game. :)

PC games, varies for me. Sometimes I never sell them, Hearts of Iron, Silent Hunter 3, well any simulation game I keep, others such as FPS, Far Cry I think was the last one, I'll sell unless the multi-player is really worth it. RPG games, I still have Oblivion and Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, sold KoToR though, played both dark and light sides.

Someone out there is trying to save money by buying used, just like me, might as well help the cause. :D My biggest reason for not liking Steam and the variants of it. :) Can't really sell them. :( and don't trust a used version from a possible person who got the account banned.

IMO not replaying good games is almost as bad as never playing them to begin with.

Also going back to replay old games after a hardware upgrade is awesome.

I wish they would remake that game with updated graphics, it was solid.

almost as bad as not playing in the first place
:Q

do you watch favourite movies over-and-over ? :p

after a HW upgrade ... last year to x850xt ... i replayed DE-IW ... for a bit ... no tension or expectations - i *know* what is going to happen ... then put it away forever .... and today it goes to Canada for another ATF member to enjoy

i get PS:T in return :)

'different strokes ....' ;)

. . . you would be a hoarder

My pc games were stacking up and one day I just decided that it was such a hassle just keeping them around and moving them when I move so I listed them on the FS/FT forums right here on AT. I got a decent buck for about 70% of em. Of course the fact that I also had the original retail packaging in near mint condition for the games made them much easier to sell.

Even if you end up with only about $10 per games its still better than sitting on your cd rack doing nothing. BTW, ebgames doesn't take in used PC games anymore.

They sit around and collect dust. I still have old 5.25" floppy diskette games sitting around. Go go 286!

is there *any* chance you will replay them?

have you ever *completely replayed* any game five years after you first completed it?
:Q

i still find the big game floppys ... and toss 'em [after checking ebay to make *sure* they are not rare] ... i don't have the HW - IF i cared to replay them

, , , and i finally *tossed* my first PC - Atari a800xl ... it has *no value* except as a dust collector :p

Quoted because it's simply an awesome quote.

it's as silly to the rest of us as saying:
IMO not watching a good movie over again is almost as bad as never watching it to begin with.
it *only* makes sense to hoarders & RePlayers.

Probably at least 50 times in total. For example, I originally completed Lemmings back in 1993 or something, but went through it again last summer (for the seventh or eighth time). Even the graphics (Mac version) still look reasonably impressive to me after all those years. :p

wow

i guess gamers have different characteristics ... glad to hear about 'you guys'

For me - the old games look so garbage to me on RePlay, i just can't enjoy it

especially if i know *everything* about it
[i will have ZERO problem with PS:T just as i had no prob with SS2 on a First Play years after release]

--every single game i have attempted to replay has left me feeling *empty* ... as though i was trying to recapture an experience that cannot be duplicated
:brokenheart:

EDIT: *Hold the Presses*

there is ONE exception for me ... B&W2/BotG ... i actually RePlayed it because you carry your 'stats' over to the next game and it *so changes it* --it becomes completely different strategy

if that x-pack wasn't so buggy i'd have replayed it a third time and started with a *volcano* ... instead of being forced to 'defend'
:Q

but once i get good with a FPS, it is almost like a walkthru the second time ...
and i *explore* every RPG so thoroughly - Except Fable where it is really *good* or *bad* - there isn't so much point in it

OK ... re: RePlay, count TWO games for me :p
