Get some bacon 4-6 ounces and chop it in up in small pieces . Brown this in a 12 inch frying pan to render the fat. After the fat has rendered pour off all but 2 ounces or so and slice one medium to large onionin 1'4 inch slices and add to the bacon pieces and remaining fat. Cook the onions over medium to low heat until they are nicely carmelized and then add about half of a the cabbage head to the pan after chopping it up first. Cover the pan to steam the cabbage and pour the water off that adheres to the lid. Do this 2-3 times and then remove the lid and let the cabbage finish cooking down under low heat. Delicious.

By the way when I do this I always by one pound of bacon cook 3/4 quarters of it conventionally
to use for BLT's, and the remaining is used as above. I also always use toasted English muffins for my BLTs bread. BLTs and fried cabbage. delicious.

Ohh Man ... this sounds so good right now ....

Cut it in quarters, Place on individual sheets of foil, salt and pepper generously, Add a pat of butter and wrap up.

Place on medium grill for 10 minutes or so.

Cook some bacon and cut it up. Cut some onion. Cut up the cabbage. Cut a few tablespoons of margarine off a cube. Fry it all up with a little garlic salt and pepper.

The other half of the cabbage? I use that with some diced ham to make a stuffed -cabbage casserole. Because my kitchen is small and I am somewhat lazy I don't actually stuff my cabbage rolls, which involves blanching the head of cabbage to soften the leaves so they can be rolled.
I carmelize 8 ounces or so of diced(1/4-1/2) ham in a skillet and then add chopped onion, bell pepperand celery, and some diced carrot to the pan and let everything soften. While that is going on I put 3/4 cup uncooked rice in a 2-quart casserole dish and add one small can of tomato sauce
and a can of Campbell's Double rich Beef broth to it and one can(maybe more) of water. Then take the stuff in the frying pan and throw it in the casserole dish along with the cut up cabbage.
Stir it all up and pop it in a 350-375 degree oven for 1-11/4 hour. Make sure before putting the dish in the oven there is plenty of liquid for the rice to absorb. It took me a couple times doing it to get it right. I have also used V-8 vegetable juice for a liquid source.

The first ime I heard " fried cabbage" I thought the same thing. My kids love it and they've even had company a few times when we've had it. One kid had a fourth helping and I got a call from his mom wanting to knwo how to make it.

One other trick. Ya wanna take it off before the cabbage gets soft or the heat will overcook it.

Cook up a 1 pound bag of wide egg noodles while the cabbage is cooking and toss the noodles together with the cabbage/bacon/onion mixture before serving. It stretches it into several meals and it heats up great in the microwave.

Chopped cabbage simmered in butter long enough until it becomes translucent and soft. Add salt, pepper, nutmeg and a liberal amount of heavy cream. Bring to a boil and enjoy you cabbage à la crème.

qft- no matter if eaten raw, cooked, pressed hard, left in the sun, chilled, microwaved, that damn gas is still there.
T.Boone may wanna rethink how we power our cars and trucks.

Don't say that like it's a bad thing. There's no easier way to get rid of unwanted guests.
