What do you do while you wait for Arkham City to load (PC)?

The only other PC game I can think of that took that sort of length of time (getting past the splash screen) to do anything useful was AvP2 - waiting for the menu to appear before the game even starts to load... check e-mail, check a couple of forums...

I wonder if there's much optimisation work that could be done with Arkham City, like the challenge levels which seem to need to be completely reloaded from scratch if you restart the level.

The pre release patch reduces the launch time considerably, so this problem is definitely going to be addressed in the official release.

SSD + movies disabled ftw. My Civ 5 loads quite fast.

Heh yep, if it's really that bad...mental note to install Arkham City to SSD. Now to get Arkham City..maybe during the Steam Christmas sale :D

I read the text on the loading screen. Cold start is a little less than 10 seconds, reloading maps about 5.

Shogun 2 takes forever to load past the splash screen right now, for me.

NWN2 takes a pretty long time to load. Not sure how it compares to Batman:AC, but just sayin. I generally double click on the NWN2 icon and go for a pizza.

Check my email, work on the Christmas list, vacuum the kitchen rugs. I did not install it on my ssd, but wonder how much that would help. It does take awhile to load though.

On a Western Digital Caviar Black 7200 rpm, takes less than 15 seconds. So nothing. *shrug*

@ irishScott

15 seconds to get past the Arkham City splash screen that you see over the desktop? Because it doesn't even look bound to anything in particular, low disk I/O, low CPU...

Miscounted actually. 16 once the splash screen appears, 15 before that after clicking the icon (some of which was loading steam). So 31 total with steam off.

I remember having the time to go take a shower and make myself some coffee while STALKER SoC was loading a map. Good times.

The slow load is DRM/Securom related.

I do and yet don't find that hard to believe. I find it hard to believe because if people have an alternative (Steam), then the choice is a no-brainer and Securom (whoever makes it) eventually goes bankrupt, and yet I don't find it hard to believe because of the low resource usage on the splash screen, and that I've had run-ins with Securom a couple of times (Tomb Raider Underworld demo wouldn't run if I had Task Manager open or something equally stupid, and Dawn of War complaining that it couldn't read the CD, despite the CD being fine - no read errors).

- edit - I haven't timed how long Arkham City takes to load when using the CD, but I would guess 2 - 3 minutes to get from double-clicking on the desktop icon to the screen going black.

What are your PC's specs? Mine loads quickly.

That said, there is a new 187.7MB patch that just came out this morning on Steam. Hopefully it addresses the DX11 issues so i can get back to playing
.. letsee, D/L's almost done .. C-ya! I'm back to playing in 3D
