What do you do when?....

I have a friends computer that sometimes loses the internet. They are connected through a router to a cable modem. When I go to the connection properties it usually says "Automatically assigned by DHCP" and then it switches to "Automatically Assigned Private Address" or something along those lines. I don't know how to fix it without restoring the computer to where it used to work? Any tips?

set a static address in the TCP/IP properties in network connections

for example, by default I think linksys uses the 192.168.0.0 network

Just use the static IP address 192.168.0.5 for example.

You need to look up the DNS server IP's
