AS long as it;'s not child pron, just delete it and give the person a tip that they should clean up before letting someone else use their computer.

Back when I was in the biz, if I found porn I used to innocently say to the person paying our bills, "what's your policy with porn on your employee's computers?".

Exactly. CYA.

I went to install an update on a staff member's PC a few months ago and there was not sufficient disk space (old PC running Windows NT with a 4 gig hard drive). While looking for files to delete, I came across a directory with 1.4 gigs of porn. He's a really nice guy, been here 25 years, just killing time till retirement, sadly, his boss was standing right there when I found the directory. She asked what it was and I told her it was just internet cache and proceeded to delete it. I've known the guy for 20 years and saw no need to burn him on it, I talked with him privately later and he agreed to stop doing it. Haven't seen any problems with his machine since then.

I would check to see what the company policy is. At most companies I've worked at looking at or having any sort of porn of your company computer is grounds for dismissal. I know of one guys that was fired when they caught him looking a porn on a work computer.

A couple of years ago, a co-worker was conducting an OS upgrade on company laptops. He found quite a large amount of pr0n on two peoples laptops. He did not think much of it, he promptly re-imaged the laptops and did not restore the offending files and thought that that would be the end of it.

The next day, the owners of the laptops came back complaining and demanding that the pr0n be restored!

Dumbasses. Of course then my co-worker had to report the files. The losers spent the next three days in HR attempting to explain the business relavence of each picture, one at a time.

If they had of shut up, they would still have their jobs.......

Of course, in a small company, the guy who has all the porn owns the pipe.

I was on the phone with support, trying to get them to properly configure their router for us (which strangely enough took a Tier 2 -or even 3- guy who was working on his cellphone from his domicile after hours to resolve)...

Support:Hmmm.. interesting ..
Me:"Hmm" what?
Support:You do know you've got a lot of network traffic, right?
Me(getting nervous):No ... what do you mean?
Support:Theres a lot of activity on port 1214
Me:What would that be?
Support:Kazaa
Me:eek:h. Yes. Well, that would be the owner and he's paying for the line ...

we host a lot of porn sites, so I'd probably get fired if I *did* do anything with porn on company computers ;)

but in your situation, I'd read the usage policy. if it specifically states something about pornography or if the porn is illegal, I'd report it. otherwise, I'd just delete and ignore... he was pretty stupid for not deleting it when he was done, though.

You probably helped that guy out with 1 or 2 clicks as much as or more than anyone else here has saved someone's career. And, since you don't see any more problems with his machine, talking to him privately was probably the most professional way to deal with the situation, and just as effective as someone else firing him.

One time at school my roommate was doing tech support for work study. He was in the media center fixing another student's PC, and called me up to tell me he found over 2GB of porn on it. He told me to share a folder he could write to, and sent it to me. I still have it. I told the student about it, he just laughed.

Unless it's a child porn or anything similar to it, just forget about it.
For Jehovah's sake, it's just a porn.

What does that have to do with me asking others how they do/would handle the situation? :p

The fact that you're making such a big deal out of it, not to mention you acting like you found something very serious, and being a wuss by acting as if you're in some kind of dilemmma.

On state property yes. I don't like knowing a chunk of my paycheck is taken out so some guy can slap his wiener to the beat of porno music. If it was his home computer, I wouldn't care.

And, like, dude. I had to touch the keyboard.

there has always been male porn for straight women (PlayGirl, for example, is painfully not directed towards gay men). I've also known some women who had a thing for gay porn, though.

I would just ignore it. If the man is getting his work done, then I don't see the problem. If his work is lacking, then his boss would likely rectify the situation anyway.

Porn is hard for me to criticize because it's just a replication of the most natural thing for humans to do (unless it's some fvcked up porn). Religion has really made it more taboo than many other cultures

However, if there was some sort of child porn, animal porn or something else, then that's definately not cool.

If it's child porn, then I'd report it without even having to think. That sh!t is so fvcked!
