I am lucky because I have almost no sleep problems at all. But then... I'm only in high school.
That's when my sleep problems started. I've been to several doctors and tried countless medications, behavior changes, ...etc....
Nothing works. For me the only way to handle it is to not care anymore. I rarely sleep well, and I'm often tired. Who cares. Things could be worse.
Well, any ways, when I can't sleep I used to have tons of sleeping pills (otc and prescription) and booze. Eventually the medications stop working (you grow tolerance to them) and despite your efforts to take larger doses and drink with them....etc... it all stops working. Then once you're used to pill enduced sleep, getting natural sleep is that much more difficult.
Now if I can't fall asleep, I just don't sleep. Too bad. I'm so used to going two or three days at a time without sleep it's no longer an issue. If I go long enough with out, it will come eventually. It is a pain in the ass though.
Though if you occasionally can't sleep (but it's not a major constant problem), try something with Diphenhydramine HCI in it (basically any otc sleeping pills or Benadryl) Take 50mg. (usually 2 pills) This should do the trick.
