Rubycon, are there only a few good places to try this boarding? I know that arming a ship is out of the question, the port authorities are not too keen on that.
How about a nice system of kinetic energy? Here's the "cheese" of a nice boarding area, with a curious davit.
Pirates get under it and out comes 12,000 pounds of anchor chain!

All the entryways are closed and locked inside while under sea. They'd need something that can shoot/throw a rope with a hook AND be lucky at that. At 20+ knots the bow wave is powerful. Picture a dyson vacuum with a few ladybugs in the chamber and it may be fairly close in comparison.

The gangway deck is on 4:

from inside, locked @sea

The closest would be AFT mooring deck, 5 but good luck trying to get there with 57,000 hp of propulsion pushing water in your face!

My jon boat with a 15hp motor in it (and only me with a few fishing poles) can go almost that fast. My family fishing/ski boat can easily hit 45-50mph; and it's anything but a speed boat.

Again, how on earth can a cruise ship outrun a speed boat?? Or, are the authors of those articles not checking all their facts. Speed boat? Either the pirates decided it wasn't going to work, else they weren't in a speed boat.

What you've never heard of the Nautica? It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 knots.

I'd get out the cam corder and go look. Not like they're aiming for random passengers on the side of the boat..

... and if they are their accuracy clearly sucks ass and you really have nothing to fear... unless they are aiming at someone on the opposite end of the ship.
