My life's dream faded this morning when I opened up an envelope. Now I'll be depressed for god knows how long...

you "wake" up and dream a new dream.

that's all you CAN do, really.

My dream (not life's..but somewhat future related) pretty much died for me 5 months ago.

but funny enough, I'm still fighting for it. :( I'm either really pathetic..or really determined. oh well..

you set new goals for yourself.

I take it you didn't get into the school you wanted.

Don't worry about it, sometimes it's for the better. I got rejected from MIT and Caltech and came to NYU and I couldn't imagine my life being any better any other way.

You move on. All you can do is set another goal. Find another dream to work towards. You can't shut down and give up when something like that happens. Life is full of successes and failures. We learn from every experience. :)

Just know that if you work hard now in a college you get accepted into, that you'll be fine, and may even end up being happier than with the other college you wanted to get into. Sometimes they seem really nice from the outside and reviews, but once you get there, you may not like it at all. Better than being depressed, get some goals for yourself. Get goals for the next year to two, 3 to 4 years, and 5 to 6 years, and another one you'd like to have as a life goal.

God might not always give you what you want, but He will always give you what is best for you. The trick is keeping your eyes open and grabbing it when it comes along! Don't look back.

Is that the same advice one should dollop on a child who's parents have just died?

mind you, it should be "dollop upon". its one of those words in the english language that sounds like it should be a verb, so people use it as such. :)

What do you do when a dream dies? :(

I can say my biggest dream I ever had - the one of woman - is dead by now. What to do? I honestly don't know. It seemed to be so important, and now there's not a single chance, no time left for that. That's exactly the reason that makes me feel so bad. I feel my life is going nowhere now, and I can't help thinking about that almost all of the time. You know, I had dreams, visions, worshiped and prayed, pulled my hair out because of my failures, finally all my hopes and faith burned out and left nothing but smoke. All I can say it hurt me deeply, nothing could hurt that much, whatever happened, even death, but not living like this - all alone, not loved by anyone and there's nobody to love, no matter how much I search I can't find anybody. I pretty much feel like I'm dying. So talk about dead dreams and pain!

Yep, I have to admit I don't care for what I'm doing for living all that much, I got some education but that's it, even if I didn't I wouldn't give a crap about it, obviously. Of course, it feels very satisfying to have maybe even as little schooling as I do. But does it make me happy? Of course not. So if your dream was a particular school, you can always find another one that teaches the same, maybe not as prestigious, but it's not the diploma but I'd say how good you are in your chosen field that plays the most important role IMO.

Spend the rest of your life quashing the dreams of others. It's the only way to maintain balance.

If it weren't for clichés how would anyone be able to deal with the hard times life throws at us?

Any word in the english language can be verbed, you know that...

On Topic: Hang in there and persevere. The great thing about dreams is that the wellspring from which they come is truly bottomless.

Well I didn't get into the shool I wanted to here in Canada (U of Waterloo), but I was accepted to another school which I was hesitant about. I ended up going to the later one, but I did not enjoy it all that much.

The truth is that you can still get into your choice school somehow. If you want it bad enough it will come. How? Look at the ways others get in. Join TONS of extracuriculars, focus on your schooling and go back and take more classes and whatnot. Get involved, write a paper or essay and have it published for whatever your chosen field is.

My high school marks are AWEFUL. My current GPA is -perfect- (no joke). I called the university of Waterloo and they said in all likelihood I will be accepted this time with my marks turned around and that high, and with all the extra stuff I do like volunteering.

Don't sweat the small stuff man.... even take a year off like lots of kids do. Work hard, save tons of money and figure out where you truly want to end up. Often times you re-assess your goals and school shmool you might not even decide to goto that one afterwards. Just relax and it will all come together if you let it...

Out of curiosity what school and what program did you apply for? And how old are you... we can make some good suggestions based on that info.
