if we had this poll in P&N, do you think the average would be higher or lower?

:hmm:

The answers would be higher.
The truth would be lower.

I get the feeling that a large number of people there do not work. A very large number.

What the hell does a pharmacist actually do?

The only thing I know of for sure is they take 1/2 hour to verify my prescriptions. That come pre-boxed. I assume they don't even put the sticker on the box :colbert:

Tech types prescription
Tech prints label
Tech finds medicine on shelf and labels correct quantity of medicine

Pharmacist makes sure the drug that the tech typed is the same as the drug the doctor wrote. Pharmacist makes sure directions, days supplly, refills, and all other details are correct/valid.
Pharmacist checks your RX history, to see if there are any interactions and risks (often there is an automated process that runs this check that gives the pharmacist the list of red and yellow flags ....)

Then, once they are sure that the prescription is valid, and that its filled correctly, and that its not going to interact with something else you take, and hopefully after they make sure its not going to interact with any drug allergies you have, then they are able to consider it "ready for pickup".

In Addition, they often consult with the customers about the drug, side effects, and anything else important to make sure the patient knows how to use the medicine safely, and that they are informed about possible risks.

Often they are taking prescriptions dictated by doctors over the phone as well.

And, since pharmacists are highly skilled, and highly paid, they generally have 1 pharmacist on staff most places at any one given time (other than shift overlaps between morning and night crew)

So what happens is the pharmacist is busy in the morning for a rush, then slow until lunch, then it is slow until people start getting off from work. Then from like 5pm until 7pm, they wind up getting 600 customers all at the same time ....

You have good, great, bad and terrible pharmacists.

The ones who say there is an hour wait, they are usually not the terrible ones.

The terrible ones are the ones who do not double check every step. The terrible ones are the ones that have a 5 minute wait all the time, even when there are 60 people in line.

Anyhow, unless its a prescription from the ER, why not just drop off the script on the way home from work or the doctor or whatever, and then pick it up the next day or whenever you pass by the pharmacist later on? you dont have to wait on site.

Based on the number of posts I see in OT by some people, I would say the same thing about ATOT! :awe:

There would be arguing over there about it though as to why one set of people were making more money than the other set. Arguing about taxes, and benefits, and Obamacare, and welfare, and EIC and on and on and on until everyone was finally worn out.

bingo. 90% of her patients are 75 years old or older.

Haha...I had to get a hydrocele removed from a mtn biking accident and had a female PA at the surgeons office. We joked that I was the youngest set of balls she had seen at the office.

My kid, 8th grade, wants to be an engineer and has the brains to do so(Thanks to his Mom). His literacy scores are well above his math (Thanks to his Grandma). I'll send him your way when he's graduated college so you can have an engineer that can write. Thank me...:D

If you love your kid you will dissuade him from practicing law of any sort.

Not kidding.

I'll put it this way - I've been practicing law for about 15 years now. In that 15 years I have not met a single attorney that truly enjoys their job. Oh sure, they enjoy the money. But none of them enjoy the job . . . not even slightly.

Systems Engineer at a large tech company (MSEE w/ 3years industry) salary at 106K/year, 8-12K in cash and 8-12K RSU performance bonuses each year.

I could consider switching ships, but the other benefits are really good here, fully paid medical, dental, vision insurance for all dependents, company paid 500k life insurance, company stock plan with 15% discount on market price, 401k matching up to 5k/year, 12 paid holidays, 3 weeks vacation, as-needed paid sick time.

She's clinical in a hospital, I believe that they interact with the patients quite a bit more.

I post way more from work than I do from home. Right now I'm wiping and and installing Windows on 3 PCs while making 2 100 ft ethernet cables. The wipe alone takes 3 hours per PC, so I have some time to kill.

I'm also out of ideas for things to watch on youtube :(

But in P&N you see people who are so out of touch with reality that there is no way they work for a living. I won't name names but its very obvious if you read that forum at all.

My sister is a lawyer in the medical arena (was originally a nurse). She actually likes her work and doesn't need the money (her husband makes plenty). That being said, she works a f-ton of hours which would make me miserable (I know...I used to as a consultant). To me, the hours it seems to take to be a successful lawyer does not seem to be worth the money...but to each his own.

Hell, even bison hate lawyers...

https://gma.yahoo.com/american-biso...onal-park-200906815--abc-news-topstories.html

An American bison being trailed by cars inside Yellowstone National Park took its anger out on a parked SUV in its path, ramming into the car that had two passengers inside.

Tom Carter, a 60-year-old attorney from Texas, was sitting inside a Nissan Xterra with his friend, Suzie Hollingsworth, a Yellowstone tour guide, when they saw a group of bison approaching them head-on.

Carter pulled out his phone just in time to record a video of the bison veering off on its own and ramming their SUV.

same here (at least in my current job -- who knows how it'll be at the new shop).

at the moment, I'm browsing ATOT while sitting on a conference call, generating logs on a storage array so we can upload them to the vendor for troubleshooting, and answering some random questions via IM.

We need a new thread with job happiness vs income so I can figure out what I want to do when I grow up.
But, being the nice guy you are...you'll give him the "brother-in-law discount?"

$140 back.

():)
$140 is the father in law rate.

If he marries my sister, I'll give him the $100 out of sympathy.:D

kidding, mostly....

Ok, I can separate them. One only works about an hour a week so just ballparking that would be $520k but obviously she takes weeks off for vacations so let's call it $450k. The other is a beast wanting to retire next year so she's working at least an hour a week, usually 2, so I'd guess she's closer to $750k.

So you do 1099 and w-2. Does the w-2 know you're doing the 1099. If not we need to bring IndyColt in here to straighten things out. I mean it's unethical and all. It's not the way to get by.

LOL

Doesn't matter. The 1099 income is taxed separately. Have you ever actually read the 1040 instructions? Sometimes I think they should be required reading before people argue about taxes in P&N....

I think the only solution here is a SO salary poll!

Mine is a teacher and pulls in a whopping $40k. But that's supplemented with a decent chunk of side tutoring income which I'm not going to explain in any more detail.

My wife is a teacher's aide and pulls in around $21k but there are great benefits. She gets high deductible insurance for her and our two kids for about $50 per month. She started subbing about 10 years ago or so just to have something to do, now she has been full time for about 6 years with benefits and a pension. Also, it's 500 feet from my front door which makes it very economical to drive to! :)

As for your wife, teacher's don't get paid nearly enough. I see what they go through. I'm sure I'll be flamed like a pizza oven over that comment though.

Maybe they don't get paid enough because they get high deductible insurance for $50 with full benefits and a pension?
