What do you do for really sore muscles?

I was lifting weights and I guess I overdid it. My arms are really sore right now. I can barely straighten them out all the way. What will help? Heat? Cold?

Take a warm bath with epsom salts, also a little slow stretching will help (now and regularly before and after you lift).

hot water.

Dont over work it. from my understanding , if you want to gain muscle mass, you need to balance how much you work and what/how much you eat.

I wannna get RIPPPPPPPEEEEDD!!!

well.. once i can get staretd..

Icy Hot, ibuprofen, stretching, and The Stick

BTW, I've heard from a few repoutable people that heat (aka jacuzzis and hot showers) are actually bad for sore muscles and a cold shower is better for relieving muscle strains. For example, after long runs (20+ miles), most professional runners take an ice bath to soothe their leg muscles. I haven't tried it, as I think warmth feels better on muscles than cold, but thought I'd just add that.

EDIT: The Stick!!!

I've never taken ibuprofen for delayed onset muscle soreness... Usually a hot bath or shower and gentle stretching feel great. Just take it easy on them and wait it out. Be careful to not overdo it lifting, though. Those two days your muscles are blasted are two days when you can't make any building progress.

This won't help you much now but when you know you're going to be really sore from a workout pound a little lemon juice. It helps neutralize all that lactic acid that will end up making you sore the next day. Works like a charm. I usually never bothered with it though because I always kind of liked the soreness. Let me know I was doing something. I'm just a freak I guess 😛

I've come to the conclusion that if I don't hurt pretty much 24/7 I either didn't use good form or didn't put in enough of a workout. I do upper/lower body on an every other day rotation and which ever body part that isn't being worked hurts till it's time to work it again.

I hear bathing in tomato juice with honey in your hair will fix it. If you want faster and more effective cure, make sure you have mouth full of eggs and pancake on your head.

Please take pic and post it here for us to evaluate.

thank you.
