What do you do for fun?

I'm in tech school for a prolonged period of time.

Every few weeks or so, we get a new group of people in fresh from basic training. The first weekend, they come to the rec center..look around....and stand there, being confused.

Some have forgotten how to have fun.

Some just never did much constructive, apart from school and pissing away time online.

So, this brings up the question, what do you do for fun?

Lots of things. Photography, Hiking, Backpacking, Camping, hanging out with friends, go to a movie once and awhile, biking...lots of things.

A great number of things, but most of them are solitary activities. I spend so much time with people during the day that I like to do things alone.

- Making wine, drinking wine
- Making beer, drinking beer
- Roasting coffee, drinking coffee (especially espresso)
- Chess. I love chess. A game of wonderful depth and abstract beauty.
- Music. I play the piano and the violin, and I play the piano to relax. I do some minor composition work as well, but mostly it's writing cadenzas to various Mozart or Beethoven piano sonatas or simply composing variations. I have an entire variation that I wrote to Mozart's K365.
- Astronomy. Not as active in this as I'm always in the city, but I have a small observatory back at home that I use for astrophography purposes.
- Software. Although this is what I do most of the day, I often get ideas that I like to work on in my spare time. The last worthy thing I wrote was called Extensible Data Transform for performing translations between unstructured documents to a structured format (XML). Used for EDI purposes mostly.
- Reading. If I didn't love reading so much not much else would be possible.

I almost wish I had less interests, but I enjoy everything so much.

Keep in mind that not everyone has fun in the same way. I'm pretty much lost at a bar, but put me in a bookstore and I'm immediately having fun. To each their own...

Neffing, Playing computer/video games, biking, composing piano music (sorta new-age video-game-score like music), working on my comp (defragging, overclocking, dusting, fixing cabling, updating etc...).

my average day:

wake up and go to work
come home eat dinner, play a few games or watch a movie or some tv.
go to bed
repeat.

weekends are pretty much all watching tv/movies or playing games. occasionally i'll take the pistol out for some target shooting, go to my friend's house (and play games or watch movies), or go take some photos.

my life is boring and sucks.
