What do you do at work!? When you are bored

I'm waiting for my trade to come in! The other guy got his ipaq last week and i'm still waiting for my stuff (including a dreamcast that I REALLY WANT) :|

i'm really paranoid, cuz my office is set up with my desk against a wall so the back of my monitor touches it and the door is directly to my left, so when people walk in, they can basically instantly see what i'm doing. it is not cool

Unfortunately there's always enough work to keep me busy *shrugs* but I manage to spend about 30 minutes a day in here. I know that's like a drop in the bucket for most of you.

since I work at a pizza place because I'm 18, I have very few options... I can go in back and drink our supply of soda if I so choose, or I have the other decision of doing more work... So usually I'm in back rotting my teeth out drinking soda watching time go by.. but it's rare that we're not busy... something or other always needs to be cooked. Asses think they need to eat out or something.. I'm just there for the paycheck.

First 6 months at this job:
All kinds of technical stuff
last two years at this job:80+% paperwork, 30% for stuff that I've never even used.

Example:
Person A needs a part number, they write the number on a datasheet, walks to the other end of the building where I sit and give it to me (boss's orders that I gotta do this crap), I walk upto within 50' of where they sit and get the form, walk back, print out a fresh datasheet, write the part number, quick description of what the part is, fill out 7 fields that average 4 characters each (one being my name), walk back upto where I got the forms (our building is probably 1000' long) and drop it off. Get bothered about "have you gotten the part number yet?" 5 times/day until the form is processed, get bothered 4 times/week w/ "what was that part number?" even though it is in the company wide database which is accessable by everyone who is asking that question and 40% of the time is how I find that number.

Repeat 6 times/week

Way to save everyone's time:
Person A fills out the form and drops it off (total time <2Min), checks the database (total time: <email or phone call)God I hate my job right now 🙁

..and that is why I have the post count I do 🙂

anyone have any ideas of how i can position myself to get more time to change the screen when someone appears, right now i have my monior slightly turned away from the door, + i really can't move my desk

<< Windows key + D works >>

Nah you don't want that! it'll really look like you're doign nothing! alt tab it to some website that's work related or something. 😉

ATOT, rest of Internet, AIM with cats back home, plan what I am goign to do when I get home or on the weekend (sometimes using the internet), d/l games to play when I get home (internet), talk on the phone with my gal, walk around the building and "play neighbor with the other peeps here," go for extended lunches, come in late, leave early, and oh yeah sometimes I get asked to solve some sort of IT-related issues (infrequent).

It is pretty sad when you are SOOO bored that you "go back to work." It is sad becuase I have done that! 🙁
