Today and any other day where we have a three day weekend it seems like half my team is out. So I've got nothing to do, because there was no traffic I have been here since 730am.

Most internet sites are blocked. What do you do when you have no work to do?
 
I wish I could go home, would be nice. I could help someone else out with their work with some pair programming but that guy wants to go home and work from home soon. Yea...
 
Surf around and look into AT for giggles (especially the Jesus middle name thread).

Look around other websites, check for hot deals, check last night foot ball scores and recaps.

Rinse and repeat for the next day and so on.
 
I browse around the Internet. In your case where most sites are blocked, yikes. Sounds like you're a dev so maybe I'd play around with a new language or framework, or work on my personal website.
 
I'm always on here with my phone. I'm trying not to hit the "this page is blocked by your company" limit on the pc today.
 
Many here will tell you that they go from co worker to co worker asking them if there is anything they can do. They take the initiative to do as much as possible and clean bathrooms if needed.

There should NEVER be any down time. You ALWAYS have to be working or you are the worst employee ever and are stealing from the company.

TELL YOUR BOSS TO GIVE YOU MORE WORK TOO!!!

Oh please, I've seen the cleaning lady walk around on her cellphone three times already. Each time she comes by she dusts the same painting on the wall here lol.
 
I hate those days! I go bonkers!!!!

There is only so much web surfing you can do before you go nuts. I've got lots of toys (soldering irons, hot air rework stations) that I can tinker around with. I'll usually mess with my cell phone, download new apps or play around with things on there.

But mostly its surf the web and tinker.

I wouldn't use a slow ass work network even if it wasn't monitored and/or blocked.

A 5"+ screen and 40+ Mbps in your pocket is the best thing to happen to Nazi work network policies.

id use my phone if cell coverage was not total shit when i walked in the building

full 4G outside

I know what you mean. They are moving us downstairs. I hope it does not affect my coverage as I have full 4g now.
 
You're a DEV and most sites are blocked for you? I would raise hell. How are you supposed to solve computer problems, access SDKs, peruse API documentation, research new framworks when you can't access every site? Now if by "every site" you just mean all gambling and porn sites, well then tough.

It's an investment firm. Everything we build is in house and all custom code and frameworks for the most part. Lots of sensitive information so that is why they block stuff. So all that research really does no good unless you forgot some java Api which you can Google for. Just what you click may be blocked or not.

Oh and they are getting rid of our cubicles we are going to have desks and open space now. And funny thing is they are putting in rooms that are meant for meetings and private time but they are made of glass lol.
